Please help me price my round for sale
« on: November 22, 2013, 12:12:23 pm »
A bit of background to this situation, I have too much work to get round and am always chasing my tail so I have decided to sell some work to be able to be 4 weekly again instead of always being 2 weeks late.

I have a very good friend who has just moved into the area and have said I have some work I can sell to him at mates rates.

This work has been serviced by me and my dad for about 6 years, good loyal customers.

37 jobs.

27 are earning £233 4 weekly
10 are earning £106 8 weekly.

4 weekly ones can be cleaned 13 times a year earning : £3029
8 weekly ones can be cleaned 6 times a year earning: £636

So the work can bring in £3665 annually.

How do I go about pricing that up into a sale?!

The work is in Cornwall.

Thank you all for your opinions, I value all feedback.

Some people charge upto 10x the monthly value, but you would hav to be daft to pay that much.

It realy depends on what your happy with

Let him pay you as he does them. Two cleans then it's his.

I've heard that rounds are going for 10x, however i know i'd never pay that.
If I bought a round I would expect maybe to pay whatever I could earn from it in 3 months, but maybe that's just me being old school!

Let him pay you as he does them. Two cleans then it's his.

Jonny thanks for your input, i'm not sure whether getting my mate to work fore free cleaning my round would be a good idea, think he wants to feel like he's earning it straight away, if that makes sense.

It's interesting different peoples approaches to this, thank you very much!

When I started 10 years ago work was selling for around 3 times the monthly value, now people are asking silly money. If the work is good, them 5 times is a reasonable fee to charge, so the monthly average of your work is £287, so 5 times is £1435.

If you want to charge him mates rates then pick a figure between £500-£1000, and you would be giving him a good deal.

Haha! I see what you did there! Trying to muscle in on the action are we?!

Thanks Lee, this seems to make sense to me, I may well go along with this mentality.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

What it makes you 2 weeks late to get an extra 37 jobs done at a mix of 4/8 weekly... Seriously mate pull your finger out and you wont fall behind! 27 jobs is a full days work! Do 1 saturday a month or something.. No way should 27 jobs make you behind.. As for the 10 8 weekly jobs just fit them in as and when with your existing work.

Sorry if im missing the point and sounded harsh but from what i read it says by selling these 27x 4 weey and 10x 8 weekly jobs you will be able to go from being 2 weeks late all the time to being regular 4 weeks again.

As for selling the work, mates shouldnt come into it as you have worked hard building it up so at least ask for 3 cleans for the work.

I think you've added 2 + 2 and got 5.

I don't need advice about running my business, this was advice about selling a round at a price for a mate.

You have no idea how many rounds I am selling.

You don't know me or my business and you have no idea about my circumstances, how hard I do or don't work or any other factor that comes into the equation.

So thanks, but no thanks.

As for selling the work, mates shouldnt come into it as you have worked hard building it up so at least ask for 3 cleans for the work.

thank you for THIS advice.

i would drop all the bad houses on my round put prices up so say 37 houses would dissapear so you would earn more for doing less.

if you are set and the mate is a really good mate i would give them to him, or employ him and expand

You clearly said you want to sell these 37 jobs to be able to work 4 weekly again instead of being 2 weeks late. No point being sarcastic about my reply as From my end of the screen its how it read.

Sell it for £3665 ie one years Turnover, don't do mates rates you have built the round up why give it away ?, unless the mate has done you a fantastic favor in the past.

These sound "low to average accounts" at a tenner a pop. How compact are they? What are they?

Without further info, to a "good friend" £500 to £1000. Depending on whether you work with him on a handover or not. Maybe £500 up front and spread payments over three months.

To a stranger 3X ' ish. All up front.
It's a game of three halves!

For a mate 4x monthly income, is it just my area or has
rounds for sale dried up, I know there more expensive but
there seems to be less work for sale

A round is werth only what some one is willing to pay.
Price all so dependes on the quality of the work and how long it takes to do,how far apart they are.
I paid 3.5 times for some work a couple of years back.37 houses is not really a round it's 2 days work.
If you can get 4x the value your on to a winner.

People are saying 4 x monthly, so £1,144.

Don't sell it at such a stupidly low price.  Rent at 20% and have £3,665 x 20% = £733 a year.  In about 18 months youll have got your £1,100 and still have the £733 a year forever. Your mate will be happy as he wont need to front up the cash to buy it and will immediately be earning. Everyones happy.

Dont bother selling it, just keep building the round up and tell your customers that because you are now coming round every 6 weeks and not 4 , you will be increasing the prices but overall they will pay less over the year .Eventually get another vehicle on the road !

If you want to sell it mate then just sell it , don't have to justify yourself to "Mik the geek" , if his a good mate , good work , get £800 .
£800   A lot of money for you and keeps your workload in a better state .
You'll be less STRESSSED ,

Live to enjoy
Don't live to just work

Since I broke my hand and had 5 weeks off , I now don't worry about work load, target times etc , enjoy life , it can easily change .

You've done the right think , it's worth £300 a month , so get £600 upfront , and £300 when he can

.??
