Its protecting your battery.
You can damage the battery by using it below a certain power level.
Not a 100% sure but I think its below 11.8.

How many hours are you working between charges? and what is the AH rating of your battery?

Dependant on what your flow setting is will effect how much charge is drawn from the battery by the pump. An example would be If the flow rate is 60 the pump will draw 3 amps an hour from your battery assuming a 10 hours work = 30 amps

If you have a 75AH battery you have used 40% of the battery capacity. As the amps are drawn by the pump the Volts also fall, However you will not see a steady fall in volts. What happens is that the volts will stay steady for a period and then suddenly fall away. It is this fall off the control see,s and if below 10.5V it will shut the pump down to protect the battery against damage.

Regularly draining the battery in this way can damage the cells and effect how well they will hold a charge.

Volt drop along the cable can also have an impact: http://www.thehub360.com/what-is-volt-drop.html

The newer controllers available since November 2012 do have a battery over ride feature hence my question re the age of the unit.
