equipment and fittings for hot water.
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:08:23 pm »
this is by no means the cheapest way of installing and fitting a gas hot water system but heres my list for those of you that are thinking of adding hot water to your system for winter.

corwoods E-Z heater(L5) with no 20 min cut off  £180

13kg LPG bottle(from local DIY shop)                   £35

car radiator hose(from any car spares shop)1m   £5

rectus 26/QR gardiner fittings                                £40

LPG stickers,gas bottle strap                                     £7

radashe koreel hi vis 100 reel(corwoods)              £230

brass fittings for reel                                                £13

so its cost me around £500 to be up and running with robust fittings, connections and a decent reel that can withstand the hot water.

i did foolishly buy the wrong heater on ebay so its cost me £63 for a natural gas heater which is in my dads garage! ::)roll.i also bought washing machine hose and boiler hose for hot outlet to reel which was also a waste of money.both are rubbish for hot water so that was about £16 wasted.

i already had 100m of thermobore and aqua daptor red pole hose(specifically made for hot) and oh i spent a tenner on a big thick piece of plywood to mount heater on and some heatproof insulation(£2).

ive still got to get a small fire extinguisher which ive not bought yet.

i also spent £120 on 4 new gardiner stiff brushes for the hot water although i think youll be fine if your just using it lukewarm to stop hoses freezing.

its been a bit frustrating over the last few weeks with connectors blowing off/fiddling with settings and then my accident but its a learning curve! ;)

hopefully ill be back up and running again on monday morning! ;D ;D

best wishes to you all

Wait 'till you run out of gas and your hose turns to wire. You won't want cold water again.  ;)

I don't use hot never felt the need, just being curious, gas is expensive now so how much is a bottle and how long does one last

I feel a bit guilty telling you about the washing machine hose daz if it didn't work, it's weird tho I've had mine on for two years now and it hasn't leaked once, we run quite hot as well

I'm gonna buy another 13 kg lpg bottle this week so I have one spare at home so when I run out ill simply nip home and swap bottles.there is no way ill want to work with cold water in winter again!

It's not needed as I worked with cold for 3 and a half years but its so much more comfortable with nice easy supple hoses.ok so say I spend 50quid a month for 4 months a year its only 200 quid.so if I work a week that otherwise I couldnt without hoses freezing etc it covers the cost and I'm in profit.that's how I see it anyway.

I'm also putting up prices in April next year so that will bring in an extra 200-300quid a month.

Fair play Ronnie with heater element but I want piping hot water sometimes for the add ons and minging first cleans and 2 monthly jobs near trees which are actually dirty even on 2 month frequencies.I have quite a lot of em!

You can come and see my set up anytime Danny. ;D

Graham the washing machine hose I bought from a local DIY shop had a plastic end thread.it just kept leaking and the hose itself went very soft and started to twist!.nevermind it was only a fiver.

Car radiator hose is much better and hardly even warms up with piping hot water through it!!great hose and no leaks.

Cheers Daz I'm starting to think about going hot, did you fit a flue? If so what was the extra £ ?

Ps. I'm going up to Concept 20 in Wales next Monday for a mate to collect his new hot system, will be interesting to see how they've done it.

Ben don't know why you didn't just install on back door as you gotta leave door open and if you get any leaks it will just go on floor outside and not in the van 😜

because it doesn't look nice on the back door and would have been a pain with hoses IMAO
