Ive cleaned all the gutter out , down pipe now goes into a top tank for collecting any dirt, then as you can see in the photo it goes through a filter this is a 5 micron pre filter, then it goes into the tank.

ive ordered a new filter,

Activated carbon block
The carbon is formed in specially pressured, high density blocks to gain high adsorption rate of chlorine, other chemicals and multiparticle organic substances.

i will see if this will bring down TDS

Is the large tank just for the harvesting of rain water ?
meaning are you planning on just transferring it to the van or does it go through a further process like ro or di at point of use ?
I've not measured the tds of rain water but sure I have read on here before that its pretty low (between 5 and 10 ppm ?) , also its unlikely to have any chlorine / chemical in it.

It will go from the big tank to the van tank then through the DI resin bottle.
the TDS was 015 then went up to 026 so I cleaned the gutter ( never been done in 10 years).

with all the rain we are going to have I think it's worth a try.

unfortunately I live in a flat still, but when I do move to a house I will be doing the same even if only to supplement my metered use.

You could go bear grylls styley and try using an old sock as a filter

You shouldn't need a carbon filter - that's primarily for removing artificially introduced chlorine and there won't be any of that!  Rain water collected in a perfectly clean container without touching any other surface should be pure, it hasn't had the opportunity to dissolve any solids so its total dissolved solid rating should be 000 Any increase in TDS will be solids dissolved after the rain lands on the roof.  All you will need to do is remove any solid particles it may have acquired from the roof, guttering etc which a 5 micron filter should do and then pass it through a DI if you're concerned about a few ppm's but if it was less than about 10-12 I wouldn't bother.
