second day with hot water.it works well!im happy despite the crap weather!

i want to get into the habit of draining the heater as one of my end of the day jobs.i unscrewed the drain screw at the bottom after work again today and it spewed water everywhere(all out the bottom even where the batteries are! )hope ive not damaged it! .

whats the best way?can i not just unscrew the hot outlet pipe and let it drain out from there?

I am only guessing daz because I do not have a hot system or know what this drain screw looks like,
but could you possibly screw a ball valve on to where the drain screw should go followed by a length of hose ?
then its just a simple case of opening the ball valve to drain it ?

Daz, cut your hose between the heater and reel and put in a female/male connector.
I use 1/2' hose so just stuck female/female to the cut ends and inserted a male double ended.
Click off and the water rushes out.
If you cut it in the right place you can point it outside the van so you don't end up with a puddle in your van

i could do that darren but its another connector that could leak.also i had a job  cutting the boiler hose to fit the rectus 26 connector on my reel in the first place due to the metal outer layer!

ill just unscrew the metal connector  from the outlet and use a plastic mug to catch the water.

yeah that metal braided tap hose is difficult to cut and modify, suprised you were able to !
looking at the pics in your other thread, if you wanted to make a more permanent solution just go to a plumbing shop and by a t section and ball valve with a length of hose on it , put it on the outlet from the boiler before the feed to the reel, will easily be leak free and no need to unscrew any connectors then .

Daz I've got connectors about 4" from wher it goes into the shower, I use the rectus and doesn't leak. When it's really cold I just undo there to drain it as I found that Little drainer screw abit fidley. You only need to drain when it gets really cold as the water will freeze in the shower and crack.

Dazmondo, I isolate the water from the tank and run the pump for about 30 seconds or so. This drains the pump and the heater. Then I just remove the connectors that go  into the heater.

simon i used a hacksaw on the boiler hose to cut it for a connector!ill try a plumbing shop at weekend and see what i can find!

danny that screw for draining the unit is defo fiddly and water just gushed out everywhere!pain in the a****!

i hate that screw as well please tell me disconecting the inlet drains it, i have the heater on a hook so i can take it out but it meens taking the gas pipe off and everything and thats as tight as prom night

mike NO unclipping the water inlet doesnt drain the heater!ive tried it!.no water comes out!when you unscrewed the drain screw did water just flood out all along the bottom of heater?ive done it twice now!

Try unclipping the inlet and releasing the pressure on your hose.
It may be pressurised so hold the water in as a vacuum.
Like when you suck a straw full of water and put your finger over the top of it, the liquid doesn't drain out.
If you get what I mean...

isolate the water from the heater, usually just disconnect the water inlet pipe.
open aquadpter on the pole let the pressure force out the water then unscrew the drain valve you will get about a half cup full run out...job done

Ive never drained mine in 3 years , if u heat van in winter why bother draining it.

Yes Daz that acre is a pain and Darrena right it holds pressure. Where I've cut my hoses I push a male into the female to release the water just the same as I do me wife with her juices pmsl !!!! 😜😁😀

eco clean i do heat my van on freezing nights but i didnt on sunday as the ice took me by surprise!heater was ok though but when im staying at girlfriends for the weekend it wont be heated so just want to get into the habit of draining it every evening in winter.better safe than sorry.
