what reel
« on: October 29, 2013, 07:20:03 pm »
Hi Guys, I am looking at getting two new reels for the van.
I have been using the blue metal ones from cleaning warehouse etc for a while. I think they are about £130 including the 100m or so of microbore.
Getting a bit tired now and I am sick of the plastic spindle losing it's thread and needing replacing. Alright, it only happens every now and then but it p's me right off.
I do like the look of Ionic's stainless steel ones but they are a tad pricey. I bought a claber reel a while ago and they are not fit for purpose {cheap and flimsy}.
What do you recommend?
Cheers.

We now use this style
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-4000-PSi-Pressure-Washer-Hose-Reel-100-x-3-8-/160932374946?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item25785129a2

Much better than the petal style reels wind in and out easier too.  They come in several sizes so you need to get the correct one, I'm sure this is the size we use for 100 meters of microbore.

I do like the WCW one linked above but when buying 4 reels a price difference of £50+ a unit had to be taken into account

Edit: yes this will take 100meters of microbore ours came from griggsdirect they were on offer at the time £65 inc vat at delivery
Also no leaks or hose lock fitting problems been in use for almost a year

Do you need to buy 4 all at once?
Perhaps buy one-see how you get on with it?
It may seem £50 too expensive for each reel but it'll be even more expensive if you end up buying a reel then buying another (probably more expensive) on top.

Ones that seem to get consistently good reviews (on here anyway) are RedAshe and Hannay.
You'll pay top dollar for them but you'll get what you pay for...

Darren, I don't think op is after 4 reels it was me  ;)
And they are redashe (Reelworks) I had used them before I did window cleaning so knew they were better than the glorified domestic hose reels commonly offered.

Hannay reel is the best IMO. Had mine nearly 8 years. Not cheap though.

DD+1. I'm up to 11 years. Still as good as new (other than consumable breaks)

Smudger-sorry bud. I'm easily confused.
