so £645 to convert to hot plus the extra running costs of gas.i reckon ill be using hot water for all my work both winter and summer though now ive invested.

obviously itll be a lot better for working in cold weather and i reckon itll be great for filthy first cleans,conny roofs and fascias,soffits which are becoming more and more frequent.

as for running costs of gas im not sure yet.i have a 13kg gas tank.im hoping it will last 2 weeks working 6 hours a day 5 days a week.so i reckon im looking at approx £50-£60 a month to run the hot system every day.some of my work(ground floor)is trad so more like 5 hours a day.

it might be £100 a month to run it all day every day.im not sure?


how much does your system cost in gas using it all the time?

Nowhere near that Daz.
It costs me around £50 per month to heat around 12,000 litres of pure. That's calor gas too-which is more expensive than the LPG at a petrol station.
You'll use a lot more gas to start with while you settle into finding the optimum temperature etc.
after that you'll be using less than when you started.

What bottle did you opt for end Daz?

poshgravie.4 brushes is just right for me!

2 extremes       regular maintenance cleans

1 sill brush        fascias/soffits/gutters and conny roofs

1 SL standard    dirty first cleans and minging frames

oh i have a 5th brush which is a black flocked SL  on a 90 degree gooseneck for solar panel cleaning

hi darren i opted for a 13kg calor gas bottle as the supplier is only 2 mins in the van from where i live so very handy for swapping bottles.

thank god mine only cost me £200 for the heater and all the fittings, upgrading pipework for hot, frame work to mount heater on, custom made flue for the l5
 

as for my running cost it cost me £26 a month to run it 5-6 days a week, using 2 x 6kg gas bottles each month on about 9000lts of water a month on average

I now use the orange hose from X-Line, seems to be a lot better,

I use a gardiners Super-Lite® Brush Dual-Trim as an everyday use one and when working at height I use the  Super-Lite® Xtreme Medium Mixed

Daz why do you use different brushes for different jobs ? I got my hot was 3 maybe 4 years ago £180 I bought the Gardiner thermo hose what you've got as it holds the heat in more than standard hose. Never changed brushes still got same brushes what I've had 4 years ago !!!! Cost me around £260 in all, only use hot in very cold weather as can't see the point in wasting money on gas when the cold does the same job in summer and that's to get the windows clean !!! Also my hot wash will last much longer if its not being used in the summer

danny i tend to use the extreme brushes for most regular window cleaning work.the sill brush however is great for fascias,soffits,gutters and conny roofs.also i find the SL standard brush is great on dirty first cleans and minging frames.

the SL flocked is used exclusively for solar panel cleaning and is screwed on to a 90 degree gooseneck.

i already have thermobore hose from gardiners used with my cold system.my reel is 2 years old and needed upgrading to a more robust model.

what brushes do you use danny?i only used gardiners.they are not the best brushes in the world but nice and light.

im getting conflicting opinions on brushes with hot systems.some say the medium mixed brushes are crap with hot and some say they are ok?

Daz I remember when you bought you thermo hose some te back. I got one pole which as the window cill brush and with the 35ft slx I got the ungar brush which have used them both with the hot wash for some years thru the winters had no probs m8, they prob heavier than alot of brushes out there but they've done the job for many years. You prob clean alot more than me Daz as 98% of my work is Commercial. I've got the 13kg propane it lasts about 6 - 8 weeks maybe longer for me if I can remember, Was using all the time but thought sod it cold does just as good thru the summer so only use it now thru winter. It's good as the hoses stay nice and soft and jets don't freeze up 😀 I don't have my really hot in cold extreme incase glass cracks just Luke warm. Good luck with it & you'd of wished you had gone hot many years back. I yeah welcome to the hot wash gang pmsl !!!

If I remember correctly, you do not have your water very hot do you Richard?

Daz, over the winter you will probably find that a medium mixed extreme will work fine as you won't be able to have the water very hot, but when the weather gets better and you want to crank the heat up the the brushes suffer. The standard extreme copes better than the medium mixed, but does still go out of shape.  This is what I have found using water at roughly 40-45 degrees at the brush head.

so that's 645 pounds out lay and you still have to plug your van in over night with an oil rad to stop it frezzing up

no I don't run the water very hot, running it about 30 at the most on average and even in winter I don't have it higher either,

I have had it on hotter to clean roofs and gutters and the brushes are fine,

but these are the old style brushes and I have noticed that my mates new gardiner brushes are not lasting as long, the bristles seem to be made from a different material.

immersion heater only stick it on when its really cold other than that i can't see the point of hot but I'm sure every1 else will tell me different lol
