Just took on an employee
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:35:38 pm »
He only started Thursday so was wondering how long does it usually take for then to get the just of things? The thing is i was standing over him the last couple of days and he seemed to be repeating the same mistakes on most windows like not cleaning right into the corners and not rinsing from top of glass. How long does every one give to let them work on there own? thanks Wayne

hi Wayne it's all about how well you coach them, you do need to spend a bit of time with them, I took my employee out for a week or so before I cut him loose

We normally keep them with anotehr fro at least 4 week cycle, sometimes a touch more, so that when they go alone, a lot of the customers "recognise them" during the accompained 4-8 week period we make sure techniques are corrects, errors are amended, all whilst trying our very best to get the quality right first then the speed - imo - do not let them go solo too quickly, its your business that they represent, make sure they are ready, and some take longer than others, our new guys are on the glass from the first day, but we do not cut them loose for 4-8 weeks.

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Thanks Mrs Smudger, hes nowhere near ready to go it alone at the min, i dont even like leaving him for a couple of minutes, but hes a good enough lad and good worker. Its just im not cleaning at the min just watching him which is slowing me down a bit. Wayne

I like reading your posts, you have done realy well, what has made you stay trad by the way?? I totally respect you for it as customers do prefere the traditional touch which is why i trad most bottoms but due to how easy it is and how lazy i have got id never go fully trad again.

unless a jobs difficult i get bored with it .  thats why we work in the rain ! not wearing a coat is summat i started but my workers now wont either -the crazey bunch ( theyv all got waterproofs in the van ) .   i earn a decent living doing it trad but the money isnt what its all about for me
things more important to me such as having a tesco big shot callin me up cos a manager  of a store we clean was singing our praises. i said to mr.bigshot hang on a mo , you just say  what you said to me to my workers and i handed them each my phone in turn   let him say his piece to them .

and this is the sign of a true manager....someone who can identify what motivates the employee and presses that button.

An employee motivated by money only can eventually become a liability as he isn't interested in doing a quality job. He starts taking shortcuts, missing windows etc as each clean needs to be done as quick as possible.

The funny thing is that some many who employ want speed asap as all they can see is the extra money.

A true manager is somebody who can Motivate the employees and knows what presses there buttons!  If they are money driven then set targets and quality checks.

My lads know I will randomly visit a house they cleaned to check the customer is happy with the clean they got today :D  Which I target my guys on Quality of work and which it worked so far as my Customer are happy and my lads are happy plus my bank balance is happy!
