I have read a lot in the past but whats the latest consensus of opinion?

Is hot really better?  If so which method, gas or diesel run?  Which model is most popular?

definitely better cleaning with hot .... quicker for a start . i use lpg . with a boiler in the back its the cheapest option. i bet most on here run this way

i only use hot on very cold days have an immersion heater fitted in tank plug into mains for 5 hours water at 55degreeskeeps hose soft and the back of van from freezing no messing with LPG  cost me 150 for a good plumber

For me hot is best using 3-4 years now winter and summer just find it quicker less hard work increases my daily productivity

If you haven't yet experienced working with warm water in cold weather conditions, then you're in for a real treat. It will be the only time that you'll really appreciate exerting yourself with a flaccid hose.

I however, don't
I manage quite happily without a hot water system or even any heater system in van overnight during the winter (street parked) and have done so for over 7 years.
That is only my opinion though and maybe not valid as I have never used one.
would be interesting to see if anyone has bought/built a hot water system and considered it not worth it ?

there is managing to get through those freezing cold days... and there is enjoying working through them 
I cant imagine how amazing it will be when your get a few drops of water down your sleeve and its hot instead of cold!!

and them soft hoses that reel in nicely instead of staying firm and getting tangled.

as soon as I have some money I will be going hot it will be the best £200 I will spend

Hot is DEFINITELY worth it - and not just for the winter. The extra cleaning power and easier to control hoses are major benefits all year round.

If you can park near your house, an immersion heater can be installed for less than £100 and is a brilliant way to get started.

No never had any problems. Buy good equipment and you will have no trouble.
I do know of a window cleaner who not only popped one window but two on the same house in quite mild conditions.

well when your going snowboarding i will book my luxary 5 star for next summer hahaha

I prefer using hot in the summer as to winter,
In winter you can only use luke warm water so you dont crack glass, and has not cleaning benifit its just to stop water freezing. ( if its too cold the water will still freeze on the glass )
In summer when the windows have more fly/ spider/ bee spots plus sun baked bird pooh etc, using hot has a cleaning benifit.
From an all year round hot user for the last 5 or 6 years.

for me i cant seem to bring myself to buy a hot system although the immersion heater element sounds appealing for winter use.id have to get a plumber in to do it for me though as id probably make a mess of my tank!

i have no problems using cold all year round.its cheaper and less faffing around.the only thing i dont like is the stiffer hoses on very cold days!!

Daz - I used the same hoses, reels & connectors for hot & had no issues at all.

The running cost for gas is about £1 a day I found - and i'm told its about £1.30 a day for immersion heater systems.

Personally, if i was gong hot again I'd go for an immersion heater based system - its cheaper, simpler, quicker to install AND you don't have any worries/insurance hassle about carrying a gas bottle in the van.

What do you do with your van overnight? Put a heater inside? Or just let it freeze?

oil filled radiator on overnight mate keeps my gear from freezing.

After 5 yrs of working with cold water cant see me going hot i drop a 1kw aquarium in my static tank over night when its below freezing but that is it .

Hot water is no better than cold when its been snowing and you cant get off your drive or out of the street were you live  . Mike
