pump not working properly

Hi all, do pumps just stop working altogether or just get less efficient. One of mine is definitely not pumping at the same rate that it was and is making a slight grinding noise. I have fitted a new pressure switch but to no avail.

You could try taking the strainer off and seeing if there's any debris in there clogging it up. wash it out put it back on then try running the pump at the highest flow rate for a good while to prime the pump up. You can return the water to the tank. After this you can lower the flow rate to your usual level and see if this has improved how the pump is working.

If a pump is going to break it usually just breaks there and then, as it can run dry ewithout water.
Could be battery
Swich underneath the pump
Strainer
I have had all of the above problems with my pump yet it still works when i have solved them

I think the grinding noise is suggesting either the motor bearings or vanes or on their way out. Poor or broken connections can sometimes reduce current available to a pump and reduce flow as can blockages in the strainer hose line or even brush jets.
I suspect the grinding noise however is suggesting something more serious how old is the pump?

They are quite easy to take apart, clean the carbon dust and inspect the brushes. They have a little spherical bearing in the end too that would get hot if it failed. Bit tricky to put back together. top end can be replaced too but easier to just buy new.
Obvious things would be to check filter, refit clean connectors on all wires first.
