Help please pump failed
« on: September 21, 2013, 12:00:00 pm »

Was working yesterday and my shurflo pump stopped. I checked all the wiring and the battery was fully charged so no luck. When I got home tried it and went for about ten minutes and stooped again.

The pump is less than a year old so slightly confused. The only thing i can think of was the day before I disconnected the feed hose from the tank to clean the inline filter. Whilst doing that I accidentaly turned the pump on.

Could there be an airlock in the pump ?

If so whats the best way to get rid of the air lock ?

cheers guys

I don't think it is to do with an airlock, most pumps can run dry. If you have not already done so disconnect the hose reel feed from the pump and turn the pump on.
Still no luck ? then I would check the pressure switch - disconnect the two red wires to it and bypass the pressure switch by joining them together . If the pump works then you need a new pressure switch.

Sod that just buy another pump all the messing around it may continue to keep playing up if you get it going. Have you tried using a pole as it may be shut off until you get the water to flow through it I know it's a silly question but it could be !!!

You should always have a spare pump in the van anyway IMO, its one of the few things that can stop you working completely.

always have a spare van too, because that's another one of the few things that can go wrong and stop you working completely  ;D

tbh there is very little to go wrong with a quality pump and a shurflo is one of those (many still are using pumps 5+ years old), far more likely to be the pressure switch or a wiring fault.
In a perfect world and enough money we would all have enough spares for every eventuality and most likely never need them  ;)

Well purefreedom sell the correct pressure switch unit wich is about £30
Or you could take the "switch" put the pump down to maplins and match it with one of theres, its exacly the same but has one exta terminal/connection on wich isnt needed... Cheap fix and costs around £2.50 i have done this twice

Hi mate

Works perfect a bit fiddly at first but once you have replaced one its easy peasy

I brought a few as spares. Never realised you could take them apart. I begrudge paying or buying them from PF as their naff customer service

Thanks again mate
