Each to there own, but there is no way I would use water at 35-40ppm. Given how little resin you would use at that ppm, it just isn't worth the risk of losing customers, or gaining a reputation of not being very good. All that needs is 1 facebooker (or whatever), not happy with your work, but unwilling to bring it up with you directly. When I used to use di only, there has been a couple of times the resin has turned and I have ended up using water that probably wasn't much higher than that, and it was noticed by a customer. They wanted me to cancel, and only through swift action, letter of apology through the door, and offering the next clean for free, did I keep them!.
As I say, each to their own, but in my opinion this could come back and bite you, and for all the money you would be saving on di resin, just isn't worth the risk.
