Putting prices up to clean frames also?
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:33:33 am »
I currently use wfp to clean top windows and trad for downstairs, however I have never cleaned window frames on my customers houses.

I want to start using wfp for all windows and clean all frames every time. Should I put my prices up?

I am currently charging about £9-£10 for 3 bed semi's compact work. And about £12 if its a bit out of the way.

My concern is putting up prices on first clean, then being bombarded with complaints because the frames are so dirty that the windows didn't dry clean.

Thanks  :)

hi mike
dont understand the logic of not cleaning the frames as i think this gives you an advantage over trad cleaners, who in the main dont clean frames, and once done on the initial clean are very easy to maintain.

i would put the price up as a yearly price increase rather than  because of the frames

On new cleans add the extra and clean everything in sight

I completely agree with Bob. I have been cleaning windows wfp for 4.5 years, and have always done the frames, and doors for that matter (including garage, depending on type of door). The price I quote includes this, and that's what I tell my customers. I think it very strange not to do the frames, certainly if wfp, I mean why wouldn't you?, you would be using the same method. As for your price, I know this can vary quite a lot from area to area, and I don't know where you are based, but from what I learned from another forum, the prices I charge up here in north east Scotland, seemed to be at the higher end. I would be charging £10-£12 for a 3 bed semi, £15-£17 with conservatory.

Most customers think cleaning the sills and doing it trade think its in with the price you give them and they expect the glass in the door to be cleaned to.

I personally have always cleaned frames, glass, doors and then blitz round with a  cloth and do the downstairs ledges, I am from the north east and for a 3 bedroom semi i charge £9.00, If they have a conservatory it is between £12-15.00.
I VERY rarely come across any customers who say i am to expensive, and i rarely come across unhappy custys.
Personally if i was you i would slowly start letting your customers know that '' as of "2014'' there will be a small price increase.
I wouldn't even let them know your starting to clean the frames just take your time give every house a good scrub and then if you have to for the first time dry them off.

+1 except I'd wait until Spring to actually do it.
Folk are skint in January and might just chuck you...

thanks guys, some good advice there...i think ill mention there will be a slight increase in the new year as suggested, hopefully that will cover the cost of using double the amount of pure water each month. i definately think its time i started cleaning frames aswell.

one more thing...do you find a wide sill brush like dr squeegee's are better when offering to clean sills also?

I bought my 1st sill brush about 6 months ago, cant believe how much heavier it feels at the end of my 35' pole. Will prob go back to a lightweight brush soon, better for the arms and shoulders!.

once you get the frames to a good standard its no extra effort to clean both windows and frames, infact it was probly harder to just clean the glass lol.
You wont notice much more water been used because you don't need to spend much time on the frames, a quick blitz over them and straight onto the windows.
