Van floor
« on: August 26, 2013, 08:55:59 pm »
Hi all

Just wondering what the best option is for my van floor...?
Brought a new van and want to protectakote the floor.

I'm going to rip up the floor ply line and paint straight onto the metal floor but then wondered what you may think is best in your experience?

Do i re ply the floor and paint that aswell giving extra protection?
Put some sort of rubber matting over the floor?(any links would be great if anyone knows of any)
Or do i leave the floor as it is once its painted?

Thanks in advance for any help  :)

if your going for a rubber mat solution you could try rubber fish pond liner or look up EPDM rubber suppliers and get it cut to suit van

Give the floor a quick sanding to remove the gloss finish and apply 3 coats of
protectakote.
Use rubber matting to protect the floor from the hose reel and anything else that will scrape it.
Don't have any wood in the van as it will get mouldy and warp with the damp.
My painted floor is as good as new after 5 years.

Thanks for the replies, i think i'll give the floor a few coats of osint and then put the rubber matting over as suggested :D
Which rubber matting is best?
Is this epdm necessary after painting the floor (overkill?)or would some bog standard rubber suffice seen as the floor should already be 'waterproof' once protectakoted?

Cheers

Don't put rubber mat down it will get wet under and start to smell, I painted my floor with protecta kote and then cut my ply floor in half so the tank sits on the van floor and at the other end my reel and stuff sits on ply if it gets mouldy I will just replace but it doesn't really get that wet if you got good conector on your reel and put wet rags in a tub all I get is one or two drips of my brush.

I use a rubber floor mat from pound stretcher its shaped like a net so the water doesn't sit under it.
The hose reel sits on it.
I have nothing else in the van that will scrape the floor.
You can buy this type of matting online in larger sections if you want to cover the whole floor.
The protectakote will keep the floor protected as long as you don't scrape it.
