glue for leaded windows ?
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:22:00 am »
Can anyone suggest what would be the best glue to use to repair lead strips that have come away from upvc windows?
I have a couple of regular customers that this has happened to, partly down to using wfp a bit too aggressively I am sure, though this is not really this issue of the post.
I have pointed this out to them and they are ok but I would like to repair them as part of my service, also handy to have some glue in the van for any further instances.

Superglue GEL. sticks it back lovely and does not run but I find once they have come away they never look quite the same as they look a little bit crinkley

Thanks Darren, will look out for some of that
Yeah know what you mean, never quite look the same, they seem to stretch and when you flatten it out you have to crease it. To be honest I pointed it out to the custies, rather than the other way round, didn't want to be getting a bad name for myself, they are very happy that I offered to sort it, shouldn't take longer than 10 mins either.

I have used Epoxy Resin with good results but there was a guy on here recommended Sticks like S**t from Screwfix apparently you can use it in the wet too.

To get rid if the crinkles in the lead you need
A lead roller and/or a boneing pen to flatten
The lead out

Try eBay

The boneing pen is a little black stick with
A point on one end and has a reversible 6&9 mm
Grove in the other end for flattening
The lead out, and glass factory or lead shop
Will have them and the cost buttons

I used to run a lead lighting company in another
Life I've got bags of them some  where, if I think
On ill dig em out and send you one
keep it simple
