We live in an open market and every ones entitled to work in it and charge whatever
they want.
A few weeks back a canvasser asked me what did I charge and I told him.
I know that hes going to undercut me and I honestly dont care.
Target the right type of customer, do a first class job at a fair price
and you will always have quality work.
Leave the worrying to the guys that are only able to get work by undercutting
because the customer they will get you wont want.

If you look after your customers you wont have too much of an issue.

However in some areas more than other people are feeling the pinch. The customers are looking for cheaper and the canvassers/cleaners are looking to generate some income just as you are.

No-ones work is safe and no-one has the 'right' to any street, it's just how life is. If you are setting up or in th market for work it will at some time have been someone else's work.

Please dont take this the wrong way dave, But surley you didn't loose all your work overnight to undercutters? You must have lost a few here and there?! So as you lost custys you should have canvassd/leafleted more!

Hope that makes sense?

Yep there's a canvassing team for a window cleaning company i know.

And i know a few windies bought work from these there 30-40% under-priced ::)roll

They prey on guys with redundancy money, give people 1/2 days if there lucky on ladders.

No I would have to ask myself if I was really cut out for the business. I must have been doing something shockingly wrong to loose half my work.

Getting possessive over customers or territory is pointless. They nor anyone else owe us anything.

It makes no sence canvassers undercutting or under selling themselfs. They have targets to hit so need maximum return to get paid a decent amount.

If a customer dumped you for a cheaper cleaner then the customer is not worth keeping. It's not the canvasers fault it's the customers fault.

Dave mate chill...a bloke round here needed to hit the ground running the same time as I was just building my rounds.
He employed a canvasser and canvassed nearly all my work in a small town near me. I Lost a few as they were nearly 40% cheaper. After a period of time I had a few phone calls asking me back as this chap had disappeared, I took back 3 out of the 5 I lost at a higher price knowing I might get dumped again. That was two years ago and still have them, canvassed work is unreliable IMO as you are asking and they are not asking. The bloke who started up disappeared as quick as he appeared.
I prefer to advertise and word of mouth is almost bulletproof work.
I worried all the time and still do to a extent but after talking to long established shiners they tend to put your mined at rest.
