Gardiner Pole Tap
« on: June 20, 2013, 07:17:40 am »
Hi
Only fitted 2 days ago and the little red plastic end has pulled out and the little horrible springy barb bit has come out too.
It seems Impossible to get back in! Has anyone ever repaired one of these?
This happened with my last one too.
Anyone know of a better more robust alternative I can't afford to keep replacing them like this!!

Hi Alex
email sent.
Pride Clean thanks for the link but it look just like the Gardiner tap how are the brass barbs fitted in?
It looks as if they could pull out just as easily.

The inserts go into the push fit and the pole hose goes onto the barb.
It is the same push fit tap as gardiners sell, but with the inserts it strengthens the tap

If you yank the pole hose to hard the inserts may pull out. I pull from the minibore hose, not the pole hose.

Are you using this with the stem to barb John Guest adapters?  The main reason these would leak is if the hose is too soft - fitting stem to barb adapters solves this.

And when it gets trapped on everything it can get trapped on. ??? ???
I've got one nightmare of a house with all these conifers that grow horizontal rather than vertical!!!!!
I've just about got the hang of how to lay the hose but it's taken a few times ;D ;D

I stopped using these a few months ago, fed up repairing and replacing them. I now use these John Guest taps:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-4-Shut-off-valve-Coupling-JOHN-GUEST-JG-RO-water-filter-Push-fit-GENUINE-/221203296653?pt=UK_HGKitchen_SmallApp_RL&hash=item3380be718d

The pole hose is too big for them, but the hose on my RO unit fits perfectly, so i put about an inch of the RO hose into each end, then push my pole hose over  the RO hose, fits so tight I don't even need jubilees. Been using them for a few months now with no probs. Much lighter than the pole tap. I use another one just before the brush, again no probs.

What a crackin idea Barryy absolute bargain at £4.43 +p+p   might get myself a few , Bought a rectus 26 of ebay last week and the pole hose insert end snapped clean off from valve body after dropping it .

Will just have to get to B&Q and get some ro size hose . Mike

Still need an insert for microbore hose so may just buy the cheaper one .

Although i could strip back the outer layer of microbore which will possibly give me that 8mm size for a straight forward push fit . Mike

You can buy the JG valves for 8mm tubing, although more expensive than the 1/4" they won't need to be modified:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Official-John-Guest-Speedfit-Pushfit-Shut-Off-Valve-Inline-Stop-Tap-Fridge-/271221857057?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&var=&hash=item3f26151b21
I actually got one of these recently, but they're much bigger than the 1/4", and the one I got was very stiff to turn, much prefer the smaller 1/4" one.

Just a tip which you prob know already, before pushing the pole hose over the RO hose, heat the end of the pole hose in a cup of boiling water for a minute, pushes on much easier and tightens as it cools.  ;)
