Transit custom swb load length
« on: June 19, 2013, 07:02:10 pm »
I have had a good look round the net but cant find any diagrams showing load space dimensions for the Transit custom swb

Can anyone tell me if the 2555mm listed for the load length includes the cubby hole that goes under the seat?

The 2555 is up to the bulkhead. Say you were loading an 8 x 4 sheet stood upright against the bulkhead you would have 155 left (2555 less 2400).
The cubby hole allows you to load 3meter lengths like copper pipe etc or long window poles! Its along the passenger side.

Most swb vans in that class will fit an 8 x 4 sheet flat on the floor, but will they will not fit in vertically unless they are placed diagonally across the van.

The problem is the driver's and passenger seats 'encroach' into the load space exacerbated if a steel bulkhead in fitted. A mwb usually adds about 300mm in floor length to the average van in that class.

Good move. Great vans.

I'd be interested in delivery time. When I first ordered mine it was 16 weeks.

I did. If given a second chance I'd leave it out. It's okay as a roof rack but not idle. Folding down is cool but I'd go for a better suited one with rollers on the back bar.

i would rarely use it , thats why the folding rack appeals to me , i guess without a roller getting a ladder on and off could be a pain .

im on the verge of giving in and buying/leasing one but i would want to upgrade the system at the same time and cant afford that yet.

thinking of going grippamax 650 or trading in my 400 ionics for a 700.

No, you roll it up over the back like a rack with a roller just you don't have one on the ford set up. Ford racks are £400.

The rear bar is very close to the back edge of the van.

I have Trafic swb 115 at the mo but is due to go back as contract is nearly up

Re ladders, I have a triple ladder which extends to around 5 metres which fits in the back of the trafic saves messing about with ladder clamps

Only Ford in 2013 can offer electric windows as an option, it beggers belief.
Is it any wonder Renault with all their faults and Hyundai with their 5 year warranty, (to name but two) have such a market share?
My van is paid for in Jan and I will look at the transit but I'm yet to be convinced.
