Help which PDA for George
« on: June 14, 2013, 08:23:59 pm »
Well I've got this far.... George set up on pc but now I need a PDA.
Have gone straight to ebay and loads on there but which one ? I believe it needs the operating system OS V3.5 or higher but I don't have a clue which ones they are as the descriptions tend not to tell you.
If anyone could point me in the right direction or recomend a model / models I'd appreciate it.

Craig.

We have 3 x Zire 31 and they work fine.

Cheers I'll have a look for one.
Are they easy enough to set up just plug in, transfer data and go I believe.

Yes - if I can do it, you can - trust me. George has all the software necessary to load the program onto your PDA. All you have to do is follow the instructions.

If you do a search on here for PDA there have been a number of threads regarding this over the years. You will then be able to see what other models are also still around that will work just as well.

When I started using George I got through two PDA that I bought from ebay in a month so decided to give up on them and print my weekly worklist onto paper.  I am so happy they broke as I think paper is the best way it is easier to see what is coming in the next few days and sort the round and it dosent take much longer to load onto the computer at night.

But I am not very good with technology, try weekly paper worklists before a PDA in my opinion :)

The thought had crossed my mind that with my luck pda will pack in just at a critical moment, so to start with it will be belt and braces and use pda and have print out to hand just in case.
However my goal is to finish daily work then box off admin within minutes of getting home instead of present situation that admittedly should take 15 mins but seems to eat half my life away.

Got the first pda in June 2006. Never had an issue.

You can choose to have your jobs to do in either date or address order, and you can change it at PDA level. We have chosen to have 2 weeks of work on George which is fine for us, although you can chose to have a months work on your PDA. You can immediately see how much work you have done in a day and how much cash you have also collected. You can also see all your customer debts.

For me it great as the three of us have each others work on our pda's as well. So if they are updated every night, then I'm only that 1 working day behind. This means that if I see one of their customers in the street, I can collect payment from them. When updating it sorts their pda out and they know where I am as well.

The one downside is that if you get a new job and you do it then and there, that job's details can only be loaded onto the computer that runs George, but it will be there on your PDA for next time. The other is that you can't enter a prepayment on the pda for a job to be done as that can only be done on the computer that evening.

Why don't they just make it compatible with Android?
If they don't someone will come along with something very similar which is.
Business suicide if you ask me.

Yes, but then they have a system that updates into the 'cloud', a monthly cost.

I understand that there is a program out there that will emulate pda software on an Android phone/tablet. I don't know anything about it, but will have to look at it sooner or later.

Thing is I don't think many people want to mess about getting software to emulate a PDA.
All I would want is an app that is easy to use via mobile.
For all I know George might be working on it as we speak.
