What is your tap tds?
Should it not take out the impurities by 95-98%?
I would say its knackered

Mine has lasted about 1yr 1/2 not flushed as often as I should have. The pressure gauge goes up to 110psi and the needle on the gauge is off the clock, So its above 110psi.

If looked after a 4040 membrane should last about 5 years
after that is starts to break down.
Change your pre filters and flush for a few hours.
I flush every day for about 5 mins before filling and then for half an hour once a week.
Still going strong after 4 years  7tds.

I was told in the past pressure shouldn't  really be above 80psi although didn't have a 40/40

Chlorine eats membranes, so it is most important that you change your carbon filter regularily.

We now have 20" prefilters on our 4040 and have ordered a new carbon filter that Gardiners sell that is supposed to be good for 115,000 litres. At a pure to waste ratio of 50/50, that should last us a while.

It may be that my di vessell is shagged,
Ive just been out to check my van thats filling after changing the 20 inch pre filters and it was producing hardly any water.
Ive just put another vessell on and its flying out,ive also waited 10 mins and the tds level from the membrane is 40 so comming down.im going to leave it 30 mins then check again.
I always flush my filters for an hour every monday so it cant be that.

Cliff
Do you feed the water straight from the ro  though the di vessel
and into the tank ?
If so this could be your problem.

Hi john
It goes through 2 20 inch prefilters then the 4040 then a di vessell and then into my tank.

Isnt that the best way then?

Cliff,
The di vessel could be restricting the filtered water flow from your ro and causing damage.
I find the best way is to filter the water through the ro and into the tank.
Then pump the water from tank through the di vessel as needed.
Been doing it this way for over 4 years.
My tap water is tds 240
Ro takes it down to 7 which goes into my tank. For the first 2 years it was tds 2
Di then takes it down to tds 0 as I use it.
Have only changed my resin once in over 4 years and even then it was only at 3 tds.
Doing it this way also means that its impossible to contaminate your resin with tap or waste water.

Ours works fine this way - ro, di and then holding tank. We have done it for 8 years this way. Our r/o produces 2 litres of pure a minute. Pure water will be easily polished off at this rate. Our transfer pump delivers water to the van tank at 40 litres per minute - much too fast for the di vessel to cope with.

Some do put their di vessel in the van and polish their water off as it's being used to clean the windows. It wouldn't make sense to do it in our operation as we have 3 vans, so would need an extra 2 di vessels.

If the seond di vessel is working better, then there is a problem with the first di vessel. I'm not sure why this should be, but an inspection of the riser will answer this question. Our riser has a screen filter at the top and a smaller one at the bottom. Could the screens have become blocked with small particles of resin? Our di vessel has an arrow to indicate correct flow direction, but I have never checked to see if it has a fitted non return valve in the head - I've never had a problem.

If you are joining the di vessel inline with hozlok stop fittings, then this would be the first thing to check. Those are notorious for working fine for ages and then, for no reason, playing up.

If you look at how the ro works it forces water through the membrane and
exits filtered.
There is very little pressure coming out of the filtered side so if the exit is
being restricted by the di vessel [ back filling] it would stop the ro functioning properly
and might cause damage.
Just saying its worth considering.

Mine goes RO - DI - HOLDING TANK

never had any problems, i have a twin RO setup to get the best out of it though as my tap pressure is quite low. But the second DI is in my van as a final polisher.

Hi all
Thanks for the advice john i may even swap the vessell around as what you are saying makes sense.
Im going to leave it a week and see how this vessell goes with the ro and see if the tds comes down in the ro,ive got it down to 30 tds from ro.
Im going to flush it again for an hour before i refill on monday evening and see if it comes down more.
Ro was producing 7 when i got it  so im going to keep a closer eye on it over the next few weeks and see how long the resin lasts.
If the resin dies quickly im getting another membrane as resin isnt cheap.

Thanks for the advice much appreciated

Regards cliff ;D
