Best rubbers?
« on: February 26, 2006, 10:03:30 pm »
Hi all.
I'm going to have to get myself some new squeegee rubber soon.

My usual supplier only sells Unger and 3* rubbers.

I've found lately that both are very prone to chipping off corners and edges very quickly. :-\

I used to get up to 2 weeks per side, but these days I'm ruining it in 2 or 3 hours...
The quality is well down from Unger.

Which rubbers do you recommend for durabilty?
I don't want hard rubber if I can help it.

Did someone mention SYR or Pulex? ???

Cheers, Rog.

Can't imagine it would fit in my squeegee channel very easily. ;D

Anyone tried the SYR ones? Someone said they were pretty tough...
Not worried about paying more, they'll pay for themselves.

Pulex soft, much easier to get a good finish around the edges with the soft as opposed to the hard.

Don't use the ribbed ones.  They leave lines on the glass.  (someone just had to say it didn't they?)   :)

More serioius response now.  I think with any brand it is possible to get a batch that is not so good Rog.  You probably do this already but I find the corners wear more slowly if you cut the rubbers almost flush with the channel length and dog earing the channel can help too.  Also, I assume you turn them around when one edge gets a nick?

I recently bought ten of these from e-bay and they're okay; far better than Unger, but Pulex seem to be a good brand; so they're going to be my next batch.

Cheers for the comments guys, think I'll try Pulex then.

Got so tired of Unger hard missing bits today, so I switched to my last soft.
Probably be on the second side by tomorrow! ::)

Pulex hard for me, They last very well with the Wagtail. Still havn't found anyone that sells them on the roll though. I keep waisting those 6 inch lengths that are left over. Maybe that's the idea. Dai

Pulex for me!

I bought a shed load of rubbers 6 months ago on special offer. I thought I had bought pulex! Days go by and I realised that these rubbers were rubbish! I thought that Pulex had gone done hill, so I bought some from unger to try them.  oooops just as rubbish, then I looked back over my invoices and found out the special offer ones were'nt pulex at all but unger!  :o I will make do for now but Pulex is the boy for me!
