Guy called today, wanted 15sqm marble cleaned, polished and sealed and wanted a price over the phone. I explained i need to see the job first and perform a test patch in order to give accurate costing. Well my last guy used to do it for £220 he says, i said get him back then mate, he says cant hes gone bust - twat

there are many contractors that will do it for £200.00 in London normally small one man setups

It depends on what level of finish he is used to>  Essentially I could probably polish and seal 15M2 of Marble in less than 3 hours so £15 per M2 is £225 + VAT.  Not bad £70 an hour.......

If however there were scratches in it and I had to grind or hone it then we are talking a totally different ball park!!!

In my opinion I think you were right not to quote him without seeing it
