Getting protective wrapping of frames
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:49:21 am »

I have been asked to price a medium sized job on a old country house which includes 19 windows inside and out, conservatory and guttering...The windows were fitted new about 5 years ago but the owner died and i think its the son now home from America to live in it, the new windows never had the protective seal removed since they were installed and im thinking this will be a pain to do!

When I try remove it it just flakes of in small pieces no chance of getting a good run and getting it off at all it seems to be completely caked on after being in place so long...

So anyone any ideas on a handy way to get this off?

Cheers

Try a hair dryer to gently warm it then it may lift and peel off
Spit and polish

I clean on a couple of sites that have this problem, the protective wrap has baked on to the frame.

That's the stuff you want to use. I get it from JTF for less than £3 a bottle. Pour onto a dry cloth then rub gently, any stickers or engrained dirt will fly off. Keep the cloth away from your nose though, this stuff reeks!
