Gardiners modular or telescopic
« on: May 15, 2013, 06:18:12 pm »
Hi guys
What would you go for ? I have always had my ionics 45 ft so I know all about telescopic poles at that height but what about a modular?

Would really like opinions from everyone

Telescopic or modular????

Many thanks

Brett

thats a good question !
I hardly hear of anyone on here using modular poles anymore.
I guess its because since Gardiners and others upped their game with innovative and lighter user friendly telescopics , for most there is no need for them.
Personally I cannot speak for gardiners modular, but I did own an emporium modular pole 40ft.
I did'nt get on with it, sections stuck together (can be overcome with adding a buffer of electrical tape) and eventually sections got chipped and cracked , even had a section snap - but that was more to do with quality.
I suppose they have a place, stiffer and lighter than telescopics, but a bit of a faff to set up and take down and put away, on a long run of windows at height on a commercial job they probably work well.
But if using for domestics and lots of different heights then telescopic carbon rules!, so much more versatile and user friendly.
I have a supermax 40, but if needed I'd happily go to a supermax 50, any higher I'd then maybe think about modular, but I don't ever expect to need to go that high and the price would not justify it for the odd job or two.

Gardiners telescopic are very different poles far better IMO, I would recommend the xtreme especially at 45ft. Modular are really only advantageous with very long runs of windows otherwise they are a pain.

we've had an SL2 ( gardiners modular ) for over 3 years

it's used regularly for several jobs per month  4 floors and up - it's lovely to use -very light and rigid
i'd only use  it for larger jobs with lots of windows as set up is longer than telescopic but i don't have much of an
issue with removing a section or 2 as you drop down a row of windows then packing it away
the hose of course is outside and can catch on things.

personally not had the sections 'ring' together but i know it can happen  - overall a great pole

There hasn't been much said about the SL2 for a few years now - I had just about forgotten it still existed.

To be fair, the SL2 is the better pole, from what I can remember, it's lighter and more rigid then an Xtreme. Downside is modular design. Depends on your type of work.

Agree, sold my sl2 and bought 47ft extreme. If the windows are continuos then the sl2 is better, for a quick job at variable heights then the telescopic
