had a call today from a company who claim that they can prioritize my ad with yell, putting me at the top of list in my area. Has anyone else had that offer and taken it up? And if so, what were the results?

I'd be immediately suspicious and give it a wide berth.

Instead of spending money with Yell (hibu) why not spend that money on developing and promoting your own website along with SEO.

Be very careful with SEO companies - often their methods give rapid results in the short term, but can damage your ranking in the long term.

You're better off investing some time & effort in company FB, Google+ & twitter accounts,.. social media really does drive up search engine rankings nowdays & will probably continue to be important for some time.
