Hi everyone. Think I'm going to move over to hot water. I want an electric solution that I can link to my batteries. I have my Citroen relay van battery, which is massive, and I think it's a split relay charge to my other battery.

Anyone know if this would work please? I don't now if it would run of my batteries or if I need mains. If there is another solution, I'd be glad to hear that too.

I know the perfecr way to explain this.

To power that unit, you would need 38-40 trina 275 panels in direct sunlight.

There is no way to heat water from a battery, unless its a really really slow flow, or not even hot.

The only way is gas or diesel

Can you do it from the diesel in your fuel tank? I'm running out of room in the van for a gas bottle!

There's no chance of running a 9.5 KW shower at 240 volts off a van battery!

Alright Steve, yes you can link up to your diesel tank which is a fairly straight forward job.

Alternatively I know you said your pushed for space, you could have a separate small tank installed, and  I might be wrong but I think you could use red diesel for that.

Alternatively, if I can find room for a small gas bottle, is the pinned thread at the top of the post board for hot water the best option? I'm going to measure a couple of places for a possible gas bottle site in the van. It may seem gas is the easiest option.

I don't think I would use hot water all of the time so is it possible to turn the systems back to cold without swapping hoses?

The heater that Alex has got is great. If you want a small gas bottle, go for the safefill bottle. It obviously costs more, but it's refillable at the pump, so you will get your money back quite rapidly. If you have got a relay and you can't fit that bottle you are doing something wrong.  

You can hook it up so that you can isolate the heater. After pump add a y piece, straight after that on both hoses you add a flow valve. One goes to heater, the other one goes to another y piece. The hose coming out of the heater then joins that y piece. Then that hose goes into the hose reel. Quite straightforward. Or just take the batteries out so the heater doesn't fire up.

Your batteries would last minutes with the power drain of that heater, the would also likely get damaged from the amount of currant draw.

Take a picture of you van and see if anyone else can be more inventive.

If you went the disiel route your looking from £2000-£3500 depending what you get.  Gas really is the way to go.

i use 1kw heaters - no extra room required - use when you want to -  7p hr to run  - water temp in mid winter is
35 degrees - cost between 4 and 8 quid to buy - no insurance issues

Thanks Tim. Alex's heaters looked a bit flimsy when I saw them!   My Relay is used for other stuff apart from windows, so is rammed, but I will try to find room!

But really, don't bother with Diesel heaters, they cost a fortune, and cost a fortune to repair. More expensive to run as well. Running a heater from the van battery sadly doesn't work.

Have you considered using a van mount installation company like PureFreedom or Grippamax? They both fit hot systems.

No - they are mini/travel immersion heaters ( look like a kettle element )

altho you can get 1kw aquarium heaters to do the job

I already got a fully kitted out van mate. I just need my water to be made hot.
