Does anybody know how to take off the filter of the Powrflite pfx 1350 model.
Don't know if it actually comes off, tried turning it but wouldn't budge and didn't want to damage it.
Also put a new motor it in it last week and did my first job with it yesterday. THAI restaurant! I ain't kidding the carpet was practically plastic!!! Blacktop more like tarmacaddam, and of course the new motor started playing up. It would come on then go off just for the craic of it. Kept happening so I checked all the connections and they were fine, any ideas? I was thinking it might be overheating or allergic to Thai food
Anyway that's what u get when u buy cheap motors!!!

It could well be the motor you fitted has thermal protection and is shutting off when the set limit is reached ... I remember someone else AJB ? stating the same when he installed an e-bay vac in a powerflite with perfect heat coils  ... thats not to say the motor is at fault , its doing exactly what it should , but the powerflite is trapping heat and stressing the any motor thats put in there .
What motor did you fit .

If you mean the filter in the bottom of the solution tank you can just pull it off i clean mine regularly

I don't exact model number but ill let u know when I get home cos I bought two, one spare.

Hey Bren, i got power flite same model as yours. The filter does come off but you need to pull harder. Don't worry it won't break

Do you have to turn it or do you just pull hard like u said. If you turn it, what way clockwise or anti clockwise.

If your really struggling to get the filter off, use the
open ended hose to run some hot water over the top of it.
obviously without the vac's running. They are a push fit and
can be a swine.
Also the vac's cutting off will be thermal protection, i'm afraid
the some of the cheaper motors are not suitable for Powrflite's.

Bren, you may want to turn it slightly and then pull, no matter which direction you turn it, it should come off. I too found it odd not being able to get filter off the pipe in the beginning.

Hi AJB,
Is there any way of bypassing the thermal cut off on those motors?
I thought it was the same as the ones you use, but I must have got different ones.
Where are u getting yours now, because in your previous posts about vac on ebay they are no longer listed.

Have that machine about 5 years now and no trouble with it.

 You can bypass the cutoff  .
 
 Unscrew and Remove the plastic cover on the motor .
 In this pic the red wire coming from the bottom is your live wire ,  the thermal switch is  housed in the glass bulb that is pressed against the motor winding . See how the red live wire goes around and through the switch and back to the connection post .

To by pass you just need to connect your live wire direct to the connection post , you might as well remove the switch and get a spade connector for your live wire .

 Yeah that is exactly the same motor as mine, I took a look at it before I put it in and was wondering what the little bulb was. I thought it might be some kind of fuse but didn't know exactly.
That's great to know I can bypass that.

Tried pulling filter off but doesnt seem to want to budge.
Just so Im pulling at the right part, is it the stack pipe at the top that comes off or the float cage? "You know the mesh cage with the ball inside"
Because it was the float cage I was tugging at.
Dont want to damage it so thought I double check.
Measure twice and cut once- and all that malarky.

Yes it is just the cage.

Johns right that is the thermal protection. The motors
I had like that were fantastic motors without the cut out,
but they won't last very long without it.
So start putting your pennies away ready to replace when
needed.

I don't think its the heat coils that are likely to cause failure , its the whole motor cabin area is suffocated to maintain a high internal temperature .
the motor cools itself with the little revolving fan on top .. but it ideally needs cool air from outside the machine either by vents , fans or a tube going from the motor top to external .

Got a bit of practice in that dept. I knew it would pay off sometime haha.
Btw John did that little job today bypassing the thermal cut off.
So I see how I get on tomoro.
