How To clean these tiles to a shine?
« on: April 07, 2013, 11:34:08 pm »
Hello ,

just wondering if anyone knows how to clean these tiles? , there in a bar so the floor gets rather sticky.
i usually mop them with lemon gel and use a microfiber cloth to dry them, but still goes smeary , i have seen the same tiles in a bar near by and they shine and look nice. I have contacted the cleaner and asked what he uses and he just send me this picture of the mop.

Sorry if iv posted in wrong section

Stop using the lemon gel. It starts off sticky in the bottle and eventually leaves a film of the same on the tiles.

Get a good quality tile and grout cleaner, allow it to dwell, agitate then rinse.

Why wouldn't soda crystals work on porcelain? It's a safe and easy to use alkaline product, it been used for 100's of years for cleaning all manner of things. As with anything conduct a test patch to ascertain the correct strength.

Note: not to be confused with caustic soda.

What's the method for using soda crystals? Are they sprinkled on the floor, or mixed with water and sprayed in the normal fashion?

I only sprinkle the crystals if it is a really greasy floor, normally I mix with hot water and spray down.

Nobody said they don't work.  All I asked was why they would restore the shine to a polished porcelain floor?  I know the reason they may work is that the floor is covered in emulsified cleaning product.  But if that were the case them just boiling water would work as well.  The reason We don't use Soda Crystals is that in my opinion you have been called in as a professional and you look a lot more professional using professional products as opposed to household cleaners. With regards to cost comparison It is not something that even enters the equation. We are talking about 50p worth (two capfuls andes to your water tank) of Heavy Duty Tile & Grout Cleaner as opposed to fart arsing around with pre spraying dissolved Soda Crystals.
