I don't know whether you are using a portable or a truckmount, but i have always used velcro straps from a diy shop rather than buy hose hangers, and make sure when cleaning landings that you have hose to reach the furthest door on the landing, then tie up your hose at the top of the stairs around a spindle. If the stairs doesn't have spindles, then i use ropetied to something else.

The reason i pull enough hose across the landing to the furthest bedroom door is because i am using a rigid truckmount stairtool and wouldn't reach it, but if i was using a hide a hose with enough reach, i would only need to pull the vac hose to the top of the stairs and tie the end there.

This is a pain in the arse for me at the moment with the tm hoses, and i have just found out that you can get a smaller whip hose at 10 foot in length. This would allow me to reach the top easier without lugging the vac hose all the way up.

I hope i have not confused you.

B&Q do the veloc strips as do Alltec, makes life a lot less hassle when doing landing or working upstairs with machine downstairs.

Velco strips a must have

Use elastic stretch cords, the type you use to secure something on a roof rack to secure hose to top banister or door handle.
I get better looking each day!!

I use Twist ties.  Can't remember exactly what they are called, but are about two foot long, metal core, and rubber/plastic type covering on the outside.  Thread em through or around banister/spindle and hose, and twist.  Simple.
