right... i run a 1 man system off a 80psi shurflo pump, at the moment i have just been buying used car batteries and using the tricle charger to charge them once a week( as i also have the battery charging off alternator in the van).
the batteries i buy are around £18.00 from a scrap yard, and usually last about 3-4months. Would i be better off buying a lesiure battery??

I have a 110ah leisure battery, bought six years ago, run off a brocott split charger. I haven't even seen it for six months, and haven't had any trouble with it, other than when my dodgy wiring gave up the ghost and needed fixing.

I think it was about £85-£90.

4x£18 =£72  a year on batteries so yes buy a good 110ah battery

I can't believe they charge you for spent batteries. Either get them free as I did fot 5 years or buy a leisurr battery and split or solar.

Charging a car battery once a week is a good way to kill it, which is probably why it only lasts 3-4 months. They aren't designed to charge and discharge but to deliver starting current briefly and then to be fully recharged via the alternator very quickly ready for the next time. A leisure or deep cycle battery would be better but I'm currently using a 5 year old 100 amp/h car battery that I charge every night - no problems so far.

wich is why i asked a question... how long the lesuire batteries lasted because i knew they were expensive, and if they only lasted a year is wouldnt be cost effective. However use all seem to swear by lesuire batteries so i shall buy one, how often do you charge them then? thanks

Ironically my 85ah leisure battery only lasted about 18 months with charging twice a week. My previous deep cycle submarine battery lasted about the same time but was already fairly old having been used as part of UPS system.
I'm inclined to stay with what you're doing but just charge it every night and see what that does to the life span. Make sure it doesn't cook it otherwise that'll kill it too. Mines charging at about 1-3 amps which means it's topped up by morning.
