Debts

What way do you all deal with late payers? My receipts say please pay within 7 days then after 7 days i send text or ring to remind them, then if they still dont pay just leave them to next clean and collect for both or dump. Does this sound about right to most of you guys or would you follow up with phone call for a second reminder. Just swiched over to online payments was wondering how everyone else went about it? Thanks Wayne.

I hassle them for a while and if they keep avoiding just write them off, I used to use the batter mix ingredient but it meant me using further time up attending the properties again.

for bigger 2 monthly  domestic and commercial accounts i give them 14 days then if no payment received i send them a text reminder or phone them up to remind them.most of the time they ve forgot and are very apologetic!!

on compact monthly cheaper estate work i pay them 2 visits and if i dont catch them in then it rolls onto next month.if still no payment after 2 cleans they dont get cleaned again until i receive payment.

occasionally ill go up to 3 cleans outstanding depending on the customer as some will pay 3 cleans no problem.

its the 2 monthly customers that i dont like leaving to 2 cleans as it means 4 months before payment but it happens from time to time.

most of the time my customers either pay me on the day of clean or at the end of the week or via cheque or BACS transfer within 2 weeks.

i always have "rolling debt" but i seem to get roughly the same(sometimes more)in takings than ive earned at the end of the month.

I just go knocking on the door until i get my money for a lot of custys i have had to revert back to collecting and some use payment slips as an excuse not to pay .

Then i end up with a massive debt list with odd custy if they have not payed and i have not caught them at home  i print off an invoice put through letter box on the invoice i ask them to pay within 7 days and if they have any questions to contact me asap.

Got a couple of custys at the minute who will be getting a Thomas Higgins letter that should get them to pay up.

As for dumping custys i judge each one individually dumping is a last resort as some custys who have messed me about with online payment have had the money every time i have collected .

Just lazy or they think it is ok to pay everyone but the window cleaner not realizing you could be owed 50x more than they owe you . Mike

I have spoke about this before I'm afraid I agree the window cleaner is not prioritized as an important debt especially for a lot of people at the moment, bedroom tax, universal credits and other cuts in benefits come in this week so my housing estaters will be owing me more money.

I have never collected in nearly three years and have only written off one debt. I don't claim to be a "real expert". I used to go out and do my day's collecting for him when I was 11 or 12 mind.  ;D

Bigger businesses have a accounting departments, they have a time in the month when they pay bills so if your on a thirty day account and you invoice on lets say the 5th of the month but they pay suppliers on the 4th then you have to wait two months to be paid . Domestics are all different some you trust some you dont. I have one customer who didn't pay for a year only a ten pound clean but the money turned up in the end ;-)
