I dont understand the problem. Sounds like they did a decent days work,
£7 an hour isnt going to make them jump hurdles for you. you made over £100 profit for doing sweet fa. Was a verey cold day. I did £210 and my other van only did £260 but im still happy for a cold day like today. Maybe you should go out aswell richy. You have done a cracking job building up your business, the trick now is to tweek everything so it runs like clockwork. You need to gain your employees respect and to gain that you need to trust them. Offer insentives as we all know money talks. Offer them first clean of any new work to stop them doing it thereselfs.
Im not trying to tell you how to cook beans on toast but it realy is your fault if your not happy as you are the 1 in control managing your business. Take a step back and look at what you have and build on how you can make it better. It worked for me.
Im sure you will be back on top soon mate. All the best.

good post mick ;D

Why hours did they work on the day in question?

I find two in a van together can't earn as much as two in separate vans?

With one man and two vans I get £350-400 per day!

With two man one van they struggle with £300.

We don't work many hours 7.30-8am until 3-4pm

depends on so many factors i have work i can do £45 an hour other work£30 and a 2 man team we sometimes only do £40 £45 an hour.
did a school yesterday in an hour and half 2 of us £190 so it realy does depend on so many factors

Pay them a bonus or better wages. If that don't work then find someone who's prepared to graft.

The point I was making is that figure is the average. We knocked out a gutter/conservatory roof clean earlier today , it was £160 but we did it in 2 hours, thats £80.00 per hour average, by the end of the day we were down to the average I quoted earlier.

Its our average figure. its a guideline maybe if Richy wishes to consider this. It certainly isnt our best hourly rate nor is it our worse.

Simples really ;-)

Easy solution.

You have 25 hosues u need cleaned.
U know the 25 houses as uv probably seen and cleaned them.
Set a guy off to do the 25 if he come back short with no valid reason. Sack him.

Same would apply if u needed 60 houses done with 2 men in a van.. u know the drills as uv once cleaned them and seen them.

If short. Sack them. Untill u find folk who can come bk completed. Then reward the folk so they keep up the good work.

Well its easy then, if they cant work when you need them too, sack them. There are hundreds that would work every hour possible for £7 per hour for a unskilled job.

Well, at least you've recognised that. If you've taken your eye off the ball, recently, then you know and you can re-focus.
But it was freezing and maybe they did have a slack day. Talk to them, tell them you understand but what you also expect.
You're going to get problems like that when you employ.
I don't employ, btw.

Richy these fellas don't realise the half of it, you've got to get your own wage, then there's the two girls in the office (and they seem to be messing about on the internet all the time), then there's a spare van. Then there's new batteries to buy, the long black rectangle ones, water to make in the unit and the list goes on. Some of them thinks its easy. You need to take a good hard look at your self guys. If i was you Richy, given the background you have said about yourself and your staff i think you might be able to get the CSA to sponsor you all. There's no doubt about it, the last year has been a bummer weatherwise and if you can get through all that who knows what you can do given good conditions? Onwards and upwards i say. I can see you going on the better things. Good luck with it all.

got trackers fitted but they dont tell you if fascias jobs r being done on one road ive noticed a 12 quid job and a 15 quid job took two men 47 minutes to do which raises suspicions

Go pay a random visit to these customers and say you are doing a survey are they happy with the quality of your service etc etc then ask if they would like a fascia or gutter clean if they say you didit last month! Hey presto....

Unannounced regular random spot checks / visits , some days been in a "mood" and "have a go at them" about anything , could be the state of the van , equipment , etc , on the next visit be really nice and bring them a coffee ,  but "keep them on their toes"

And at the end of the day if you are not happy with them sack them , you are better of with no staff than with cr@p staff from a stress point of view........
