Cracks me up, cos the ones that are knocking me for it, had they of been in the same situation, would be £8 short, and have a bloke walking round the town thinking hes got the better of you.

No brainer really.  ;)

Ok, try to see it from another perspective rather than just being aggressive about it.

It's nothing to do with it "only being £8" in the way that £8 is not a lot of money.  For me, it's that rather than spending time on "endless phone calls, door banging etc..." and then time going round to collect, perhaps another approach would be to forget the £8 and use the time cleaning someone's windows who might turn out to be a good long-term customer.  I wouldn't be "£8 short", I'd be "up one new customer."

My view is that my business is cleaning windows.  I chase debts until the time spent collecting looks like becoming more than it's worth.  I don't care what a non-customer thinks of me.  If it costs more (in time, postage, driving, etc)  to collect a debt than the value of that debt, I'd be mad to chase.

And now call me a gay, southern jessie who knows nothing about window cleaning and has only just started and has a smart van if it'll help you to deal with my disagreeing with you...

I wouldn't have threatened to kick the door in as it disturbs your own 'inner peace' and rarely promotes good feeling.

Having had a re-read of the OP I agree I would not have threatened to kick the door in either. There are better, more equally efficient ways to get your money.

I tried the 'better, more equally efficent' ways, and they failed. So I up'd it a notch and got my pound notes. If it takes that type of approch to get your money (which rarely) happens, then so be it.

I could draw a hundred quid out the bank now if I wanted to and chuck it down a drain and not be bothered...

I don't go round telling people tho.

No?  ;D

Yeah im sure they haven't answered the phone and door all month just to avoid the window cleaner for £8  ::)roll

You clearly havent been trading long, or got a lot of customers, if you have never come across someone who will avoid paying a small window cleaning bill... damng idiot

Been trading 20 years and have 300 customers. I'm not the one coming across as an idiot.

i agree with vin to a point.i wrote a £25 job off the other month after going out of my way about 10 times to collect.in hindsight it was a waste of my time and fuel.

luckily non payers are very rare on my round.
price higher/work harder!

James you come across as very immature. I reckon i'd of got the £8 easy without resorting to coming through someones front door. This i think is the issue a lot of people are having, threatening to come through someones door is not good. And infact if you picked the wrong or right person to say this to you could end up either in custody or casualty, as it is it paid off for you. I still think its a pretty dumb road to go down. You appear to be of a stunted mentality in so much as you're happy to brag about what you did and that it saves a guy walking round town thinking he's got the better of you. I don't see it like that. Others don't too. Just like the customer had no choice but to pay, you should also accept the fact a lot of people think you're dumb for doing what you did. And for the record i also think it was a dumb thing to do. It says a lot about you.

That's a bit harsh Cleanclear.
I reckon James is quite young, not too long ago I'd have been just the same.

Cleanclear - Please explain how you would of got the money, what would you have done that I hadnt already tried? (you will have to find my other thread, where ive listed what I done)

You will notice that thread is titled 'THAT £8', as it was aimed at the people who commented on my last thread, advising me to forget about the money, and that I will never get it.

I prefer to make money rather than chase it.
Some who haven't paid me for whatever reason are still good custy's
others I just wont do again.
Do I care what the one's who don't pay say no

I havent collected for years, just leave a self addressed envelope and any money owed by the time next clean is due (which is very rare) doesnt get cleaned plus i,d never be cleaning windows for £8 anyway i,m running a business not a charity.
