natural black slate
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:38:05 am »
Hi guys a large client of mine who i do carpets and strip and seals in diners (vinyl) every year has built a new customer show room which has a black un-polished slate floor approx 30m x12m. The slate was cleaned straight after it was laid by a large international cleaning/waste contractor who used a pine gel chem in double mopping unit, result the tiles are covered with white/grey marks which will not wipe off by various tests done. My client has asked me to see if i can improve this and remove the white patches, and polish up the tiles (his words) the client will then recur the costs from the contractor. Any suggestions or oppinions will be appreciated.

Ha what are the chances we have just back from fixing a very similar problem, cleaner had used an acidic cleaner and caused a white oxidising on black slate floor, we used a neutral detergent and floor spinner on TM to clean the floor, this did nothing for the staining but left us a good base to work from, we then applied a mix of 50 / 50 true turpentine and boiled linseed oil waited for a while then applied again waited a while and buffed the surface with a cotton carpet pad to remove excess, not a shiny finish but a very natural and almost wet look, if the white marks disappear when wet this could help

A mild wash of Aqua Mix Phosphoric Acid Substitute diluted 3:1 will probably sort it
