Hi all,

I've tried using pre-sprays and microsplitters using cold and hot water. I know by the time its hit the carpet its cold anyway and I've noticed no aparent difference in performance. Unlike using hot or cold in the machine.

Does using hot or cold affect the performance of the product? I've never noticed a product recommending one or the other.

Any thoughts on the subject?

My personal opinion is it makes no diffrence.


Then I read somewhere the other day that Pre Sprays should be hot.

Do not take that as a fact because Ive no idea where I read it.


Please note I was refering to Pre sprays not micro splitters

Thanks for the input, I've read somewhere that pre-sprays are better hot as well but can't remember where! I'm still unsure!!!

I could be wrong again but ive been led to believe that in some presprays the chemicals are held in a clay and it takes warm water to disolve the clay"ish" substance and release the chemicals

I just read the thoughts of Jeff Cross and yes I must get a life.
   


I could not see where he mentioned Pre Spray Temp


However he did say the longer you leave it and aggitate before you extract the better.


So does that mean Pre Spray on survey and come back three days latter and extract.


Seriously 10 mins ? Howlong do you leave yours. How long do you aggitate

Spray some mixed Pre Spray on a plate let it dry see if plate is sticky

i mix ms into a pepsi sprayer cold,this is then used when & were needed.

i have found that it makes no difference hot or cold.

on this not i have heard that if ms is not thourly rined it leaves a white film on the fabric which can be a bit of a sod to remove.

The white powder is the phosphates which can be hard to redissolve.

Hot prespray will work quicker than cold ,  but as you have alluded to the temperature drop will be very large , say in at 50C out at 25C by the time it hits the carpet.

Finer sprays will cool more rapidly.

In reallity dwell time is much more significant than temp with detergent products.

I find prespray , leave 10 - 15 mins then prespray with hot cleaning solution and extract.The second prespray will hit the carpet hotter and speed up wetting/emulsification.

With MS hot is recommended but I havent found a noticeable difference, dwell time is not crucial as wetting action is not present , no surfactant ,  so agitation is required instead.

In conclusion detregent products will work better at higher temps but not much diffence with presprays due to heat loss.

Ian, I know what you're saying about dwell time, I find that some houses are so warm that if I tried leaving the pre-spray down for 5 minutes it would have dried out! So for it to still be effective after 10 or 15 minutes I would have to soak the carpet, not the best idea. I'll try the plate thing, interesting thought!

Doug, I'd never thought about pre-spraying a second time with hot cleaning solution before extracting, great idea for really grotty carpets. Good conclusion, sums it up really!

I remember while on the IICRC course, being told that, there is absolutely no gain to be had from a second application of prespray............but, I have found, following a dwell time, of around 10 minutes, it is definately advantageous, on heavily soiled carpets, or suites, to lightly spray from the lance, before agitating.

I've never heated presprays.
