« on: March 12, 2013, 08:37:42 pm »
Hi Guys
I left my van out a couple of nights ago in the frost, thawed out all my gear the next morning, lucky nothing damaged, went to fill tank and tds has gone up from 0 to 18,has anyone else had anything like this or is it just a coincidence and my resin has come to the end of its life,i have only had my wfp set up a few months my tds out of the tap is only 20 and was expecting my resin to last much longer than this.Any ideas anyone?  ??? :'(

How many months have you had your resin for?

And how much water do you use each week?

I believe it can, I always bring my DI in when cold, what size is you di vessel though, a larger one should last a good few months in fact longer with a tap tds of 20

Your resin should be lasting about 6 months  with a TDS of 20.

it is more likely damage to the riser. take the top off and have a look . you can repair them or replace

I just have the DI vessels in the house, and filter the water straight into the van so I don't need to carry em about wi me  ;D

The bead's of resin, the actual individual resin ball's, swell up and crack open with frost, just like a frozen milk bottle. When this happen's, the bead's are not going to purify anything, so, yes, frost does knacker your resin. It wont kill it all at once but will kill some of it depending on how much of it has cracked open.

That would be without water on it though was it?

Yes. However, I'm pretty sure the resin bead does not actually absorb water into itself so is only suspended in the water. I think any problem with a freezing vessel isn't the resin but more likely riser tube seal etc.
