Has my VAC blown?
« on: March 08, 2013, 11:13:59 am »
Ive used my Alltec Advance for ages , but I think for the first time a VAC has just blown.  :(
Right at the end of the job, thank goodness!

It started banging and popping with a burning smell. That was vac 1, vac 2 seems to be ok, but not tried vac 3 as I have just got back in.
So sounds like the vac had  blown??
Thanks

Or......the brushes have worn down and arced. I have replaced brushes at this stage and saved the motor most of the time.

Ive taken it in to be serviced.

Its been a brilliant machine, and thats the only thing to have gone wrong in 800+ hours.

Ironically, having used my Jaguar 6.6 for 16 months (vac trouble free), I expected the post to be about something else for a change ........ and was pleasantly surprised to see that every other make of machine does not work perfectly well forever, after all  :o

Hi Guys

I have mamanged to get over 1900 hourds out of my Altec vacs and previously with Extracta I was spending more on vacs than chemicals, so I can't be considered a good machine maintainer.

I think as John Martin has alluded to, it is the stack which largely prevents the ingress of water and fluff, which has served me well.

Cheers

Doug

I've still got my first machine, it's over 30 years old and never had a pump or a vac change, still use it as a back up, Extract-o-Matic.

The reason i half expected this thread to be about the Jag 6.6 vac motors is because over the past few months there have been many many posts about on going problems with them even after the upgrade which was supposed to have solved the vac blowing problem,

Richie is right, that there have been many posts about blown vacs, many from two people though !!

Not knowing how many Jaguar 6.6 machines have been sold, I would suggest it is not a problem common to the machine but more to the individual and how it is being used. Mine is not completely cleaned out each time but I ensure a bare minumum of care is taken, when filling and emptying ......... I like to replace my machines when I see something better, not because it dies on me  ::)roll

There is also another guy selling a Jag in the for sale section who has just replaced 2 vac motors and lets be honest nobody is going to say anything on Cleantalk about it are they.

I know other guys that are having the same on going problems with the Jag vac motors blowing.  Performance wise the machine are good, they just need to get the over heating problem sorted once n for all

I don't understand the overheating problem ....... as I said before, I have used mine to clean £1600 worh of corridor so no furniture to move and machine was inside with me and only switched off to refill/empty ........ that never overheated the machine ........ but then my stack pipes were not congested with fluff & bits, due to vacuuming those off the carpet before extracting  ::)roll

Richie, you are right to thnk that problems may not reach CT forum but I saw the dead Jaguar 6.6 photos before they went public, so I am sure I would have heard about other problems !! I have had 3 Jag owners message me direct, with questions on daily maintenance but never on any actual faults.

At the end of the day, we all have out favoured machines, solution & suppliers ....... does not mean all the others are bad or wrong  ;)
