as title say ive been today to survey a primary school on one side it has a very large portacabin tucked into an area of the school

to clean the three storey windows would be pretty difficult as your prob 30ft out away from the window cleaning over the portacabin

ive looked on the roof and its pretty slimy and mossy

should i risk assess to clean from the flat roof of portacabin??

and risk the likelyhood of falling thru the roof

risk the liklyhood of slipping off the roof

any ideas

they said theyre happy for me to leave it but i dont wana lose out on possible job if someone else says they can do it

me personally would have no hesitation climbing on the roof caretaker says he walks on it

just wondering what to do to cover myself if there any ways around using the roof

Put scaffolding board on roof to walk along,leave it next to cabin for future use.

there only prob a 1-3 ft of space around the portacabin where its been squeezed into the space school suurounds three sides of the portacabin

might ask my mate to throw a scaffold round it as a barrier

Depending on cabin type most have fastening points on the top of the legs - so they can be stacked. Why not use spreader boards to walk on roof,  then use fastening points as anchorage points with harness cover yourself with detailed RAMS.

put edge protection if working less than 2 metres from the edge of the roof and use younger boards to both spread your weight and to avoid having to work on slippy surface, whilst accessing and degressing from roof have ladder secured and extending at least 1 metre above access point , for those that have posted use a MEWP ground conditions, access to area and cost would have to be taken into consideration

to be honest im not too worried about the strength of the roof and it may even be an extra job i can price for cleaning it

 i am sure you will be able to reach the windows without going within two metres of the edge of the roof if so then normal plastic barriers will be sufficient, if yo do need to go nearer the edge then scaffolding can be easily erected as a edge protection
