Seooo complicated.
« on: March 07, 2013, 12:51:45 am »
So if I create seperate pages for each of my covered locations eg carpetranger.com/carpetcleaningdiss, carpetranger.com/carpetcleaninglowestoft it will possibly help me get listed for these generic locational keywords, but the duplication of content will be seen as spammy by google and might well get me penalised, therefore bringing my pagerank for my main keyword (carpet cleaning norwich) down. Im listed 4th for 'carpet cleaning norwich' now, so not sure I want to risk it.

Unless of course I try to avoid duplication of content and create new content for each page, but really, how much 'quality content' can a person come up with for Great Yarmouth that sets it apart from say Norwich. Surely impossible to avoid being spammy?

Also I used a few seo services on fiverr in haste a few days ago and upon further reading it turns out I might regret this - if not now then in the future. Some stuff might br getting past Panda now, but in a few weeks suddenly sites might well start dissapearing from listings. As has happened before.

Urghhh

when you go to a customer's house and they have used a vax/bissell/rug doctor...
do you get annoyed and say something like "why did you not get a professional in ?"

well websites and the t'internet are the same thing... Why not stick to running a business and cleaning carpets, and let a t'internet professional do the website and seo sort of stuff?/

Only askin like..  ;D

Im paying Creare £336 per month to do my seo.

They are a large and established company and when I signed up they claiemd to be able to bring me around 1000 high quality visits per month & I decided it was worth it.

That was in Sep/Oct last year & despite being on first page for most of the chosem keywords as of the last month or so I am still not seeing much result, in the way of leads, at all. Wenever my adwords goes offline, sales come to a halt. So I am looking to go my own way & start manually optimizing & link building.

£336 is only for 2 locations (Norwich & Yarmouth) and they charge much more per additionial location. The articles they wrote havnt really added much quality info to my website. To be fair they are not carpet cleaners, so I cant expect them to write quality content on carpet cleaning, however the last article they wrote me for my blog contained very similar content to an article I had published myself for the very same blog, a week or so before - which makes me think they hadn't read my blog.

In short, I cant afford it (over £10 a day) and its not yet bringing me much leads at all.

For £336 a month, damn right you can expect them to write a decent article. Why not just use that money (or considerably less) towards a decent Adwords campaign, if that's what's bringing the work in??

I think you have been overly optimistic about what 2 months work will bring you, unless thats what they promised you.

Actually, now is a great time in SEO as personally created, relevant content, generated on a consistent basis is going to take you much further than anything £300 a month could produce from an seo company.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Sadly, this tactic which would work well say 12 months ago will not yeild any progress for you.

hi wynne, why do you think it would not be beneficial now?i am really only learning this seo stuff so be interested to hear your view.my understanding is putting articles on say high pr sites like ezine is not as good as before. But what i am thinking of doing is getting some articles and putting them on guest blogs etc,

Guest blogging is one of the few ways now you could potentially get a high PR link (other than having a totally private content cluster) so the question is why would someone with such a site want your article? Are you considered a leading authority in the carpet cleaning world? Have you been writing so much that you are seeing data showing which post/article is absolutely caning it? If someone writes content for $2 a pop whilst it might not be detrimental it doesn't really help anymore. Also local seo is not seo like the gurus preach. You know your town better than anyone who will charge $2 a time. There's tons to write about in your area that can relate to your business, this is where your creativity kicks in. You can also use pictures, audio, video. Just make sure have done your keyword research.

It wont happen overnight and what most people do is a flurry of content, then nothing. That's probably why it didnt work for them.

Joe, if you do not mind me asking, could you tell us what they are providing for that apart from article marketing? I presume they are producing and syndicating them but what else are they doing?

No save your money.

Spend half an hour writing an article. Next day spend half an hour editing and rewriting. Do that every week. Make it so you are adding a page/post every week of fresh, unique relevant content and make some effort to have a keyword phrase to target without going mad. Find succesful local blogs in other locations or blogs in your location by different types of business. See what they are doing.

Garry I stopped AMA etc about 8 months ago because whilst I got no warnings from WMT pr0 pr1s are pretty much discounted now.

This is partly why Im sat at my desk so much interspersed with rantings on here.  ;D

TOP TIP if a client is providing content and you dont get paid till its live dont hold your breath.

I agree Wynne, I would not use that on a money site now. I have not done anything like that since getting "Penguined"  :)
