Personally I hate Google+.
Hate is a strong word. Why would anyone hate a social media site?
I have found that it is not as natural to navigate as Facebook. Not sure about twitter, I don't use it 'cause I hate it.
As for using it to advertise, I never have.....yet. Like you say if you want to remain searchable on Google you are going to need a page eventually. So far though it seems to be entirely populated by Yank nerds, billionaires and the Dalai Lama.
