Ford connect/ water in foot well.
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:20:50 pm »
Decided to fix the water leak in the foot well its was not leak on the bulkhead but under the foot step on the sliding door. If you remove the plastic cover on the step you will find that the water can flow freely through to the cab from the back of the van. THis is were the wiring goes to the back of the van. You will also have to remove the front seat to plug this gap with urathane foam  and then put it all back.

No pics as job is done. Just open the sliding door and look down at the foot of the sliding door. There is a plastic cover with three screws holding it in place and three plastic clips remove them with a star  screw driver the three clips are on the  rear floor of the van. I could not get these clips loose so just broke them out. If you then remove this step cover you will see a opening to the cab of the van this must be blocked with a water proof silicone or urathane foam the plummers use to fill in  holes in walls.then put the plastic cover back and seal the bulkhead with silicone.

ive had this problem and have had to remove the passenger flooring twice to dry it out.
So basically i have ran a load of mastic along the bottom and underneath the bulk head at the back when this dried i then put 2-3 coats of protectakote over it about 4 inches high onto the bulkhead and the same on the floor, for the big gaps at either side of the bulkhead i just used some expanding foam to fill them in let it dry and then cut off the excess and then put 2-3 coats of protectakote over these as well since having done that ive had no issues. You may find water will also get into the footwell next to the sliding door at the back and leak into the passanger side footwell i also took this off and used expanding foam to fill the gaps with some protectakote and finally i put the plastic that fits into the footwell at the back sealed with mastic underneath on the edges and used a few self tappers to hold it down tightly on the edges and 2-3 coats of protectakote around that too this has solved the problem for me.

Lol

It's a nightmare, as keeping the system leak free is virtually impossible.

It stinks and gets your boots and trousers wet!

It's not. I don't have ANY leaks on my van system or my static. It's all about using the correct/quality fittings and tubing. i.e John Guest.

Sometimes by trial and error.

I couldn't put up with leaks. - The smell etc, everything being wet and your van rotting out beneath you.
