Grout Re-colour Job
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:20:34 pm »
Im newish to stone floors so a few basic Qs please

1) Did a ceramic tile clean and grout seal last week.  Two coats of Aquaseal seal applied by toothbrush to grout lines.  Really tedious job.  Any other options to apply seal to grout lines?

2) Also on same job I sold her a re-colour but her grout was a pale grey/cream colour and non of the five shades I had matched anywhere close.  So just sealed it as above.  Should I just stick to white or cream options with this service?  Grey seems to hit or miss.

3) Different job.  Two tiled shower floor trays.  Non slip tile.  Cleaned with HDuty Aquaseal cleaner.  Dry.  Apply white colour/seal with toothbrush.  Needed two coats to get a really white finish.  Dry and wipe of excess colour with a white pad.  Nightmere.  Took ages.  In fact this job took 3 hours for two 1200x900 trays. :o

Any tips?

Thanks
Mark

1. If they are smooth tiles I prefer to spray the sealer over the tiles then use a window cleaning squeegee to pull it into the grout lines. When its dry buff with a pad to remove excess from the surface of the tiles.

Can you be more specific with the products you used and in what order?  You seem to contradict yourself in the middle of the post or maybe you are just mixing up the products you used!  I don't know anyone who has had as much trouble applying colorant as you seem to have had and we sell 1000's of bottles a year.  A great deal of which goes to first time DIYers as well as professionals.  Aqua Mix do 24 standard basic colours of grout Colorant with the possibility to order a further 120 shades.  So 5 shades seems a waste of time!!!

Hello Mark

give me a call on this.

there is a few methods that can be applied to grout colour seal
when cleaning it of the tile once applied

window cleaning squeegee is a good one from jamie
also sometime a sponge can work to your advantage as well
but mostly we use a orange coloured  cloth that is made for this job.

 cheers davy

I meant the squeegee could be used for impregnator not colour seal.

Just to clarify.
