Ben M, it is easy to fall into the trap of just buying enough.

If you "know" you will not go beyond one operator/500L and you deffo want new then the question of how many seats versus parking space comes into play.

My 56 Doblo bought new ran with a 400L and could take a 500 with one operator. So a Connect or Berlingo or new shape Doblo would be fine.

However if you see yourself going two men 650 plus you need a minimum of 1000kg, probably 1100/1200kg payload.

Funnily enough, if it's just you and the new issue isn't a biggie and 3 seats useful then a late pre 2007 (56/07plate were the last) Scudo/Expert/Dispatch with 815/900kg payload is the perfect choice.

I know of so many windies using these vans to great success.

Ben, "round our way" (besides Mr and Mrs Tosh with a 500 in his pre 2007 Pug Expert) - I have actively helped four windies (buy at auction or put in a tank) with this shape of van between 02 and 06. They are hubby/wife teams or sole operators and they all have 400 - 650 tanks. (Tho with a 900kg payload the 650 cannot legally be filled beyond about 550 when two up.)

I also know a guy who runs 3 newer shape 07 plates scudo's with 1000kg and a 650 on board and another with a newer shape and a 500 on board.

Of course brand new you can get a 1200 version of the scudo.

Me? I bought a Hyundai iload this time last year with a 650 plus a barrel and two up I'm near it's 1060kg limit. Cannot fault it (nor should I after just 1 yr and 5000 miles) but then I cannot fault my now 6yr old doblo which we still run.

No fun in that, it'd be like hitting a barn door at ten paces.

I'd recommend getting either a dispatch/expert/scudo or a primastar/vivaro/trafic. All good vans and new they come in 1000kg or 1200kg payloads. You can often get a really good deal on the 1000kg models as there are always excess models floating around and that is all you will need. The payload should be enough and you won't be cramped.

My Transit was in at the dealers today for a minor recall,I took the opportunity to have a look at the new Custom just out of curiousity,they look really good,although I think the load space is slightly smaller than its predecessor.
