Slx22 section 1 2 3 jamming up
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:58:10 pm »
I've just stripped down full clean and re-taped my slx tonight...
Been having a few problems in the last month with a dust like substance holding sections in and not running freely, i kept cleaning it once a week or so but never made much difference and after half the day it's holding sections in again ::)roll

I lay out all the sections on the floor one by one and only two had stop tape left on it and the others were missing "mmmmm" is this what the black dirty stuff was jamming the pole up?

It's back together again and feels smooth but will it last :)

Anyone had similar experiences please?

I'm having the same with the 3rd section, lately it's been really stiff and not its not gritty it's like smooth but stiff and no matter how loose the clamp it doesnt make any difference if that makes any sense....   ???

Maybe Mr Gardiner could shed some light.... :)

......with my super-telepathetic powers I can see that you have a misaligned nodule on the right hand side of the 3rd overlapping section..... ;D

Seriously though the only real way of checking out what is the issue is to strip the section down and see what is happening in the overlap area. If you cannot see anything then you could always send me a short video for me to have a look at.

I would always recommend to every pole user (whether our poles or others) to strip the pole down completely about every 4-6 months to fully clean the overlap areas (whether there is joint stop tape or not). This is also a good time to check the condition of the overlap tape and replace when needed. Also on older poles when I do this I often put a wrap of overlap tape around the very base of the section (as well as at the overlap stop point). This helps protect the base from further wear and actually help the pole stay more rigid - Top-Tip!

It doesn't hurt to hose out the inside of the sections either to remove any build up inside
Thanks,
