Taking ages to full tank!
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:47:17 pm »
Hi I've got a 400l tank and now it seems to be taking about 10hours to fill tanks on a good water pressure! I've just changed filters but still no change?
I use a 40/40 membrane and di!
Anyone know why it might be taking So long?
Thankd

mine takes an hour(400L)DI only though.

whats you tap tds?if its under a 100 it might be worth switching to DI only.a lot less hassle and time.

best wishes

Has the tds after ro risen too ?
how long did it used to take to fill the tank when new ?
Are you sure the pressure is good ie; have you actually checked it with a guage ?
What ratio is the waste to pure ?
I'd look inside the membrane housing and check the seals are good, maybe they are damaged and water is getting past and going to waste outlet ? just a wild guess but worth checking if you can.

That is the worst advice ever dazmond.

If around 100ppm it would cost a bag of resin a month or thereabouts. My water is 280 and when my merlin cracked i used di only as a last resort to work and a sack of resin died on me before 2 weeks was up making less than 2000 litres. Maybe attempt di only if ppm is under 30.

haha mick! ;D ;D ;D ;D

my tap tds is around 30-35 most of the time.

im sure theres guys on here with tap tds just under a 100 who use double DI and  25KG resin lasts longer than a month!!

mines usually last about 5  or 6 months before needing changing.(i use double DI as well when my resin starts to creep up).

its a lot less hassle thats for sure!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anyone who is di only with 100ppm simply has money to burn and
Doesnt make business sence at all unless there a few sandwiches short.

If my water was 100ppm id be happy with a cheap 300gpd costing £200 odd bringing my water down to 3-10ppm withought the need for resin.
No way di only with 100ppm. If 30-35 like you it wouldnt be a problem.

How much water do you use a day mate. That sounds great. I use a 720gpd merlin and pure between 2-3000 litres a week 280-350 in and 30 out before di annd a sack only lasts me 3 months.
What does your 300 gpd bring water to before di??
Cheers

The membrane is only 6 months old!

I presume that this has deteriorated compared to when first fitted? If it has always been this slow then the water pressure is not enough to get decent production and you would be best to get a booster pump such as this type - http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=pump&page=2&product_id=245

If it has deteriorated then it may be one of two reasons:

1. As you say the TDS is very high, it may well be that the hard water has calcified up the membrane. The only solution to this is to fit a new membrane and then flush very regularly for at least 5 minutes for each hour of use. Alternatively fit a water softener before the membrane. This advice is usually only needed if the input TDS is higher than 350ppm.

2. The membrane has become frost damaged during the winter which effectively destroys its production capability.

I use a 300gpd from pure freedom with booster pump @ 125psi and I get between 2 and 7 after the ro
