Government backed window cleaning apprenticeships
« on: January 18, 2013, 03:33:32 pm »
Hi chaps..

Does anyone know if the Government give financial support to window cleaning firms offering young people apprenticeships ? We're thinking of offering somebody one.

Any help appreciated.

Yes they do. We have an apprentice joined us on the first of September last year.
We are still waiting for the £1500 pound to appear lol.
Think they pay it in two instalments.
Don't just think of the financial gains though , extra employees cost money in other areas. There's a lot to consider, wish I had.

Ok.

So do you get £1500 a year as a kind of thank you from the Govt for doing it to help with costs ?

Do you have to pay ALL his hourly rate or do the Govt contribute in any way ?

Any details would be appreciated from someone who is doing it.

Our email address is clarity.cleaning@ymail.com

Thanks

The £1500 is to help with the initial costs of employing. They will have an assessor who will visit them on a regular basis to oversee the course work, they will attend courses from time to time. As far as I am aware it will last for around 2 years. At the end of that time the apprentice will have a recognised qualification .

Wages and rates can be found on the hmrc web site.
We pay our young lad 2.65 per hour he is 17 years old. In his second year his wage will rise to 4.98 per hour.

Hope this helps.

A week to train....

I wish....... what type of staff you got working for you, Staff need proper training. I can assure you it takes longer than a week to train quality staff to do the job properly. No one can learn WTp and trad in a week and be proficent.
