I remember trying that pointless exercise many years ago when I owned a Kirby and realised what a waste of time it was, but on the plus side it got me interested in the use of dry foam for upholstery cleaning.
Also used an old machine similar to the Von Schrader but found it left furniture wetter than wet extraction.

Best dry foam machine I had apart from the holloway swift was the Nilfisk advance sh120. However like all the best bits of niche equipment from Nilfisk it was discontinued.
