Yup, they're really in the soup.

I was having a conversation the other day about the sheer amount of high street names that have gone over the last few years.... we thought of loads... Sad really.

its very sad, what's even more sad is the town councils have not worked out yet that they need to help ghe little shops and give them support and stop allow charity shops to dwarf high streets

My local town centre has been decimated by this recession. Clintons, JJB, Jacobs, Jessops, borders, woolworths, bay trading, land of leather, Ethel Austin, motor world to name a few.

Unfortunately, with our shopping habits now facing more towards Internet purchases, I'm afraid it's inevitable that we will be losing more big names before the economy gets any better.

Ironically it looks like HMV may be one of the next to go. I say ironically because when HMV opened in my town in the early 90's it forced 3 local record shops out of business so I guess the process has now gone full circle.

I'm more upbeat about the prospects of HMV. In fact, I'll go as far as saying, I'm HMV positive.

i think if its a charity shop they dont have to pay council tax... or very little.. council should offer the other shops the same instead of charging the earth . give the poor buggers a chance or the high st will definately die
