Ive also been thinking of carpet cleaning as a bad weather sideline.
My question is do any of you windys do it [ in bad weather only ] and does it pay?

Why don't you blokes interested in "add ons" take a tour of the subjects and problems on the carpet section? If you think that a Vax and a stiff brush is going to earn you money, then get stuck in. Real carpet cleaners will turn up after you've finished and clear up the mess and earn lots of money.

I think it's a great idea. Try adding electrical fitting and British Gas boiler maintenance while your at it, they earn on rainy days too.

Or, just an idea, try getting more customers for window cleaning, then you'll have loads of work and may even have to clean windows in the rain like some of us do, then you won't need to do all those add ons.

for every good carpet machine you buy brand new there is a course  free   do the course             clean every one of your relatives houses  friends  other windies  charge them £10   cover for products  do them on saturdays  then when you confident     tell your clients  your carpet cleaning also  show them your certificate and insurance   





                               warn your customers  before you do the course  because they maybe thinking of  calling a company then you miss out      but let them wait until you are confident                     not sure if this helps   but whatever

I do carpet cleaning as well as window cleaning, you will need to spend a good deal of money on kit to do a decent job (£4k +) not to mention the training and knowledge.
As it goes now i get more calls for carpet cleaning than windows, seems to me in my area the amount of new window cleaners here is increasing all the time.
Window cleaning is far easier money !

I tried to get into it.
Kept a machine for doing my own but the money just wasn't there.
It's also not as regular.
No-one has their carpets cleaned monthly.
If you put your all into it, it seems to be profitable. But as a sideline, seems difficult for the return.

I tried Chimney Sweeping as an add on in the early days... Thinking it would be good for rainy days - But it was basically impossible to book sweeps in for just rainy days - It never worked out.

I now just stick to regular domestic window cleaning (with a few commercial jobs thrown in)... I've found that concentrating on just one thing, and doing it well brings in most £££
