Digital Diary
« on: January 06, 2013, 02:26:51 am »
Hello All

I want to reap the benefits of a digital diary for all my appointments and scheduling. Tablets come to mind. I want it to be my primary data source and able to sync it to my computer for back up. I am out on the road 10 hours a day - so need good battery life. Wi-fi would be good to. Need the abilty to scan diary by day / week/ month/ year as required etc. Instead of typing i might want to "scribe" entries to diary.

Any advice would be great. I currently use a Nokia Mobile (Hybrid Touch), and have a Windows Vista PC. My hardback Letts diary tends to disintegrate around September!

Cheers

That's easy: Google Calendar - it's free, open source, and integrates with every device I know of.

I use it (on my Desktop) with Thunderbird (email client) and the lightning plug-in.

Android - I recommend Pocket Informant software to sync to Google (address book and calendar).
There's loads of choice... and it's free. or very cheap.

We were in the same boat a few months ago and opted for the new ipad 3, does everything we want plus you can have as many diaries as you want on it, i have mine, the carpet cleaners, domestic cleaners, commercial cleaners, cycle hire business, etc, etc. you can view them all together or individually to see what each person had on for a particular day or week.

I can also just sync the diaries to different people so they know what they are doing and when.

Love it!!!!

Thanks Ian - but this device does so much more than i need (i think)!  Also a bit pricey to risk having nicked from van possibly. Does size of it make it easy to carry about when doing quotes?

cheers

Kindle Fire  HD, The display is much better than the
IPad mini, and it's a lot cheaper. The good display and
faster processor will be out in about 6 months as the
IPad mini 2, when the IPad mini  will become obsolete.

Perhaps you're right Chris I thought it had but the screen was very good the guy's son had the ipad mini and his daughter had a Kindle fire HD IMO the difference was clear the mini won hands down also you do need to know about the operating of it as apple products are so easy to use.

Stick to paper diary and Google calendar.
If it all goes tits up the diary is always there.
If you look after them, my diary has never disintegrated yet.
Also put the basics on phone calendar, cheap as chips.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

I agree John, I once lost my diary on line fortunately it was a. backed up b. had a paper copy.

Oh and c. I don't have to wear my glasses when punching in on my phone where I can just write in big letters in my diary.

Ipad mini in an otter box is a good option.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I just use my iPhone 5 in an otterbox and have google calendar synced with apple's native calendar! I have an iPad 3, iPad mini, Samsung Nexus S and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. All much and such although personally think apple is far superior! As the old saying goes you get what you pay for.

i use this calendar Dave on my lap top and on my phone, syncs immediately as its  cloud based.

and i can't fault the S3, best phone ive ever had but i would buy a good case for it, wife dropped hers (dizzy blonde ;D) and a new screen is gonna cost us £140.  :o

oh and apart from repairs, all the apps are free which is nice.
